Qualifications

ABOUT YOU AND THE ROLE

We are seeking a Financial Controller to oversee Avantia’s financial operations, strategic planning, analysis, and reporting. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient financial management, compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and contributing to the company's financial vision, guiding decisions, and supporting long-term growth.

This is a key, newly created position within the Finance team. We are open to candidates interested in part-time work (minimum 2 days per week). Please specify your preferred schedule in your application.

The role reports to the VP of Finance and includes team management responsibilities.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead the Finance team, fostering a high-performance culture
• Manage technical accounting, including policy documentation and preparing for standard changes
• Design and manage key control processes, including audit, tax, treasury, and financial controls
• Coordinate external audits and ensure audit readiness
• Oversee transactional finance, payroll, treasury, and cash flow management, with a focus on automation
• Manage tax strategy, compliance, transfer pricing, and R&D tax credits with external advisors
• Ensure compliance with local statutory requirements in the UK and US
• Collaborate with commercial leaders to emphasize the importance of controls as the business grows
• Advise the VP of Finance on strategic financial matters
• Manage cash flow and maintain banking relationships
• Report accurately on cash and loan covenants

Strategic Initiatives:

• Support evaluation and execution of strategic initiatives, including new products, partnerships, and capital raises
• Drive cost management and participate in procurement and budgeting processes
• Assist in financial due diligence for acquisitions and investments
• Prepare the company for future financial events like fundraising

Qualifications and Experience:

• Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA, or equivalent)
• Big 4 audit experience preferred
• Minimum 6 years relevant experience, ideally in SaaS or professional services
• Experience with private equity or VC-backed companies is highly desirable
• Experience with US entities and related reporting/taxation preferred
• Proven experience as a hands-on Finance Manager or Financial Controller
• Strong financial modelling skills
• Leadership experience in managing and mentoring teams
• Solid understanding of UK GAAP, US GAAP, IFRS
• Experience with Xero or implementing new financial systems is a plus
