Financial Controller (Part-Time)


Based:
South of Dorking, Surrey
Hours: C20 hours per week
Salary: Around £80k pro rata

This is a unique opportunity for a fully qualified accountant to bring their expertise and leadership to a growing business, helping to establish best-in-class financial processes and practices.

We are seeking a seasoned professional who can hit the ground running, providing stability, clarity, and structure to our finance function. If you’re looking for a part-time role where your experience and strategic insight can make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

As our Financial Controller, you will be instrumental in shaping our financial operations and setting the company up for sustainable growth. You will:

• Oversee and streamline accounting operations: Manage billing, accounts payable/receivable, credit control, and general ledger management with precision and efficiency.
• Establish robust financial controls and processes: Design, implement, and continuously improve financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Provide strategic financial leadership: Partner with senior management to ensure financial best practices are embedded throughout the business.
• Prepare and present financial statements and reports: Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Ensure compliance and manage risk: Maintain compliance with statutory regulations and internal policies, and coordinate with external accountants and auditors as required.
• Lead automation and system improvements: Drive the adoption of technology and automation to enhance financial efficiency and accuracy.
• Mentor and guide: Support and advise our freelance bookkeeper and other finance staff, providing direction and oversight.
• Support business planning: Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management to underpin business strategy.

What We’re Looking For

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent): Essential requirement.
• Significant experience in a senior finance role: Preferably within a commercial or manufacturing environment.
• Proven track record of establishing and improving financial processes: Demonstrated ability to set up and refine accounting systems and controls.
• Strong technical skills: Expert knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and tax compliance.
• Leadership and strategic insight: Ability to provide clear direction, mentor staff, and support senior management with actionable financial guidance.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving: High level of accuracy and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving financial issues.
• Reliability and professionalism: A dependable, hands-on professional who takes ownership and ensures accountability.
• Familiarity with accounting software: Experience with Sage, Excel, and ideally Insight123.
