Job summary

Huntress is recruiting a Financial Controller in Central London for an established, employee-owned planning and development consultancy. Hybrid working – three days in the office – and a close partnership with the Head of Finance to lead a small finance team.

You will oversee day-to-day finance operations, drive reporting, strengthen controls, and support ERP implementation. Applicants should have SME or professional services experience with WIP and project accounting, ACA/ACCA or equivalent,

Qualifications

• ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification, or significant relevant experience.
• Experience leading a small finance team and overseeing month-end, VAT and financial controls.
• Experience managing payroll processes and supporting audit requirements.
• Advanced Excel skills and hands-on ERP experience; UNIT EPRx knowledge advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end close across UK entities, prepare monthly management accounts and ensure accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
• Oversee WIP, project costs, revenue and profitability, ensuring financial performance is accurately monitored and reported.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis, providing meaningful insight to senior stakeholders.
• Lead, coach and develop the finance operations team across billing, credit control and accounts payable.
• Manage quarterly VAT returns, oversee outsourced payroll and related tax submissions, and coordinate audit activity.
• Support the implementation of a new ERP system, improve reporting accuracy and identify opportunities to streamline processes and increase automation.

An established, employee-owned planning and development consultancy is looking for a Financial Controller to oversee its day-to-day finance operations and help drive the finance function forward. Working closely with the Head of Finance, you\'ll lead a small team, while improving financial reporting, strengthening controls and supporting the implementation of a new ERP system.

Experience within an SME or professional services environment, particularly with WIP and project accounting, is essential for this role.

What You\'ll Be Doing

• Financial reporting: Lead the month-end close across UK entities, prepare monthly management accounts and ensure accurate balance sheet reconciliations.

About You

You\'ll be a hands-on, commercially minded finance professional who is comfortable balancing technical responsibilities with team leadership and continuous improvement.

You\'ll ideally have:

• ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification, or significant relevant experience.
• Previous Financial Controller experience, or be a strong Senior Finance Manager ready to step up.
• An SME or professional services background, with solid experience in WIP, project accounting and project profitability.
• Experience leading a small finance team and overseeing month-end, management accounts, VAT and financial controls.
• Experience managing payroll processes and supporting audit requirements.
• Advanced Excel skills and hands-on ERP experience; knowledge of UNIT EPRx would be advantageous.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with a proactive approach to solving problems and improving processes.
