Job description

Location: Poole – Onsite, Monday to Friday – Moving to Westbourne in October

Role Type: Permanent, Full-time

ABOUT US

We are a growing group of companies specialising in housing solutions for organisations with complex accommodation needs across the corporate, healthcare, construction, and insurance sectors. Backed by over 20 years of experience, we provide tailored accommodation strategies, combining short- and long-term housing, property management, and bespoke client support. As the business continues to grow, we are strengthening our finance function to ensure it is fit to support the next stage of development. This has created an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded Financial Controller to join the business in a newly created role.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is not a business-as-usual Financial Controller role.

As a newly created position, this role offers the opportunity to shape, develop, and lead the finance function within a rapidly growing business. You will have the opportunity to improve processes, develop the accounts team, strengthen financial controls, and enhance the support finance provides to the wider business.

Working closely with the CFO and senior leadership team, you will play a key role in improving financial reporting, supporting better decision-making, and ensuring the finance team becomes a proactive and valued partner to the business.

We are looking for more than a technically strong accountant. We need a confident finance professional who can take ownership, support the development of the team, drive high standards, and build strong relationships across the business.

Applications are welcomed by experienced Financial Controllers, Finance Managers ready to take the next step in their career, and qualified accountants looking to make their first move from practice into industry, provided they can demonstrate broad experience across management accounts, VAT, payroll and client advisory work.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a commercially minded and people-focused Financial Controller who enjoys improving finance processes and developing teams.

You will be confident operating in a growing business where processes may still be evolving, and you will be comfortable bringing structure, clarity, and momentum.

You will be someone who can build strong relationships across the business, challenge constructively, and help the finance team become a trusted partner to senior leaders and operational teams.

We are seeking someone who is confident in building relationships, communicating with stakeholders, and working collaboratively across the business.

You will be comfortable challenging constructively, making decisions and taking ownership whilst maintaining a positive and collaborative approach.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • Fully qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or in a similar finance leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing, developing and improving finance teams.
  • Strong technical accounting, reporting and control experience.
  • Experience producing management accounts, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to translate financial information into useful insights.
  • Experience improving finance processes, controls and systems.
  • Confident working with senior stakeholders and non-finance teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across the business.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience using accounting systems.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on role within a growing and changing business.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
  • Strong people management skills with the ability to support, develop and motivate others.
  • A confident and professional approach with the ability to build credibility and positive working relationships.
  • Outgoing, approachable and relationship driven.
  • Proactive, organised and solutions focused.
  • Comfortable challenging existing ways of working where improvements can be made.
  • Able to balance attention to detail with commercial pragmatism.
  • Comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Positive, resilient, and adaptable.
  • Able to bring structure and continuous improvement to a growing finance function.
  • Ambitious and motivated by the opportunity to make a lasting impact.
  • Comfortable working closely with stakeholders across the business and building effective relationships.
BENEFITS
  • Additional leave
  • Company pension
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee discount
  • Health and wellbeing programme
WHY JOIN US?

This role offers far more than traditional financial reporting responsibilities. It is an opportunity to contribute, improve, and make a genuine impact. You will have regular exposure to the CFO and senior leadership team, the opportunity to improve finance processes, and the chance to develop your career within a growing business.
