About the Role
We are working on behalf of a highly respected, award-winning legal services provider with a strong national presence and a focus on both Legal Aid and Private Client criminal defence work. With decades of experience and industry recognition, the firm is now entering an exciting phase of transformation and growth.
As part of this journey, they are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead their finance function in London. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring strategic financial leadership to a dynamic legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis: Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and strategic financial plans. Provide clear analysis and reporting to support senior leadership.
Financial Reporting: Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with applicable accounting standards.
Management Accounting: Produce management accounts, variance analysis, and KPIs with commentary for stakeholders.
Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow and working capital; manage treasury operations effectively.
Compliance & Controls: Ensure financial compliance and maintain strong internal controls. Lead audit processes and regulatory filings.
Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor finance staff, fostering continuous improvement and a high-performance culture.
Systems & Process Improvement: Enhance financial systems, tools, and reporting processes for improved accuracy and efficiency.
About You
Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
Significant experience in a senior finance role, ideally as a Financial Controller or similar.
Ideally, prior experience working within a Legal Aid firm or the wider legal services sector.
Strong background in financial planning, analysis, reporting, and compliance.
Advanced Excel skills (financial modelling, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis).
Familiarity with finance and ERP systems; experience with Employment Hero or similar platforms is a plus.
Proven leadership ability and experience managing a finance team.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
Working Arrangement
Full-time, Monday to Friday or Hybrid working model – 4 days in the office, 1 day from home Central London office
