ICAEW in London is seeking a qualified Financial Controller to lead the UK & Ireland finance function, reporting to the Finance Director. The role combines core financial control with commercial partnering and strategic insight.

You will drive monthly reporting, balance sheet reviews, audit coordination and process improvement while developing the finance team in a high‑profile, international environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with strong technical accounting knowledge and commercial awareness.
• Experience owning a year-end audit process.
• Proven ability in management accounting and financial analysis.

Responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts and review key accounting journals.
• Provide detailed P&L and balance sheet analysis and commentary.
• Review and control key expenditure, including payroll and supplier payments.
• Oversee tax and HMRC-related processes, coordinating with external advisers.
• Partner with senior leadership on financial planning and the annual business planning process.
• Take ownership of the year-end audit from start to finish.
• Prepare year-end financial statements and liaise with external auditors.
• Drive continuous improvement across finance processes and controls.
• Support and develop junior members of the finance team.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a qualified Financial Controller to join a highly regarded, international professional services business in London. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, this is a broad and commercially focused role with responsibility for the day-to-day finance function across the UK and Ireland. Alongside owning the core financial reporting and control activities, you will work closely with senior leadership, providing analysis, insight and commercial support. The position would suit an ambitious Financial Controller looking for a visible role within a high-quality, international environment, with plenty of opportunity to improve processes and develop the finance function.

Your new role

Key responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts and review key accounting journals
• Provide detailed P&L and balance sheet analysis and commentary
• Review and control key expenditure, including payroll and supplier payments
• Oversee tax and HMRC-related processes, working with external advisers where appropriate
• Partner with senior leadership on financial planning and the annual business planning process
• Take ownership of the year-end audit from start to finish
• Prepare year-end financial statements
• Act as a key point of contact for external auditors
• Drive continuous improvement across finance processes and controls
• Support and help develop junior members of the finance team

What you’ll need to succeed

• You will be a qualified accountant with a strong combination of technical accounting knowledge and commercial awareness.
• Proven experience owning a year-end audit process
• Strong management accounting and financial analysis experience
• Knowledge of UK GAAP / FRS 102 or IFRS
• Strong Excel skills
• Experience working with an ERP system with NetSuite exposure advantageous
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
• A proactive, hands-on approach with strong attention to detail
• The ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders
• A genuine interest in developing people and improving financial processes
