Job summary

MacNeil Shellfish Ltd, a leading Scottish seafood business, seeks a Financial Controller to own finance across a multi-entity international group. Reporting to owners and working with the Fractional CFO, you will drive management accounting, reporting, cash flow, and robust governance in a fast-paced environment.

You will lead a finance team, collaborate with senior stakeholders, and implement automation and improvements to reporting and processes while shaping the finance function for long-term

Qualifications

• Qualified Accountant or equivalent with senior finance experience.
• Strong technical accounting skills with practical, hands-on approach.
• Experience in an owner-managed business and multi-entity environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly management accounting and financial reporting for multi-entity operations.
• Cash flow forecasting and working capital management to support growth.
• Oversee multi-currency and international VAT compliance and controls.
• Strengthen financial controls, governance and process improvements.

An outstanding opportunity to join a market-leading Scottish business in a pivotal Financial Controller role. THE ORGANISATION

THE ROLE

Reporting to the business owners and working closely with the Fractional CFO, you'll take ownership of finance across a multi-entity international group operating within a fast-paced, operationally focused environment.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Leading monthly management accounting and financial reporting
• Cash flow forecasting and working capital management
• Managing multi-entity, multi-currency and international VAT compliance
• Strengthening financial controls and governance
• Budgeting, forecasting and business planning
• Supporting operational and commercial decision-making
• Driving process improvements, automation initiatives and enhanced reporting
• Providing oversight and support to the finance team

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We're looking for a qualified finance professional who combines strong technical expertise with a practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to operate within an owner-managed business.

You will be a strong communicator, comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders, providing constructive challenge when required and translating financial information into meaningful commercial insight.

Mandatory

• Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ICAS, ICAEW or equivalent) or Qualified by Experience
• Experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance role
• Strong management accounting and financial reporting expertise
• Cash flow forecasting and working capital management experience
• Multi-entity accounting and international VAT exposure
• Experience strengthening financial controls and improving processes
• Strong Excel and finance systems capability

Preferred:

• Experience within FMCG, food, manufacturing, logistics, distribution or supply chain-led businesses
• Multi-currency and international trading experience
• Xero experience
• Exposure to automation, systems improvement or ERP-related projects
• Previous experience operating within an SME or owner-managed business

ON OFFER

This is primarily an office-based role in Larkhall, allowing the successful candidate to develop strong relationships across the business and gain a deep understanding of the operation. It also offers the following salary and benefits
