Job summary

Lloyd Barnes Recruitment has been retained to appoint a Financial Controller for a growing business in Exeter, Devon. This full-time, permanent role leads the finance function and partners with senior stakeholders to drive commercial insight and robust financial controls.

You will oversee monthly management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and statutory reporting, with a focus on process improvement, cash flow management and ERP-enabled efficiency gains.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA/CIMA designation.
• Previous Finance Manager or Financial Controller experience.
• Strong Excel skills and ERP experience; familiarity with statutory reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the finance function and team.
• Oversee monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial controls.
• Provide commercial analysis to support pricing, costs and profitability.

Financial Controller

Exeter, Devon

£75,000 - £80,000 per annum

Our client, a successful and growing business, is entering an exciting period of expansion and is now looking to appoint an experienced Financial Controller to play a key role in supporting their continued growth. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the finance team on a full-time, permanent basis and make a genuine impact within a commercially focused organisation.

As the Financial Controller, you’ll lead the finance function, combining strong financial leadership with commercial insight to support key business decisions. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you’ll oversee management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and financial controls, while driving continuous improvement across the function.

The responsibilities:

• Lead and develop the finance team, supporting performance and succession planning
• Oversee monthly management accounts and financial reporting
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process
• Provide commercial analysis to support pricing, costs and profitability
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, stock and capital expenditure
• Maintain strong financial controls, reconciliations and supplier processes
• Coordinate statutory reporting, VAT, payroll-related submissions and audit requirements
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency and overall financial performance

The candidate:

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified accountant
• Previous Finance Manager or Financial Controller experience
• Strong experience across management and statutory accounts, audit and financial reporting
• Excellent Excel and accounting systems skills; strong ERP experience advantageous
• Commercially minded, confident leading a team and influencing stakeholders across the business
