Job summary

Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to have been engaged by a well-established Cornish manufacturing business to appoint a Financial Controller based at their headquarters in St Austell. This is a full-time, permanent role where you will act as the finance-number-one, leading a small finance team and partnering with directors on strategic reporting.

You will oversee internal controls, statutory and management reporting, payroll, audits, and drive improvements to digital accounting systems,

Qualifications

• Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent professional experience in finance.
• Strong leadership and people-management abilities.
• Proven track record in financial reporting, budgeting and controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting and internal control policies across the business.
• Ensure compliance with reporting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Identify improvements to financial processes and digital accounting systems.
• Act as primary finance contact for directors, stakeholders and suppliers.
• Produce detailed management accounts and analyses for management review.
• Oversee monthly payroll and assist with annual audits.
• Develop and mentor junior finance staff to CPD goals.

Trial Balance Consulting are delighted have been engaged by a repeat client, a well-established and highly successful Cornish manufacturing business. Driven by a highly experienced and passionate senior management team, the business continues to expand year-on-year and with exciting plans for the future, this would be an opportune time to join the company as Financial Controller. The role is offered on a full time, permanent basis to be predominantly based from the business’ headquarters in St. Austell.

The new Financial Controller will essentially assume the role of finance-number-one, working closely with the company’s directors and senior management team, as well as supervising a small but highly efficient finance team.

Key responsibilities to include:

• Lead responsibility for all accounting protocols and maintaining robust internal controls
• Ensure compliance to all relevant reporting standards
• Identify and implement improvements to the function and digital accounting systems
• Act as a key point of contact to external stakeholders and major suppliers
• Production and delivery of detailed management accounts
• Oversee a monthly payroll
• Assist with annual audits
• Lead and develop your own team to ensure CPD goals are achieved

Think you’ve got what it takes? We’re looking for an exceptional FC that possesses A1 technical experience as well sound commercial judgement. You’ll be taking a lead role in ensuring the efficient financial controls of a very busy function with multiple income streams. We’re seeking a candidate who feels as comfortable with management reporting as they do statutory accounting, leading audits, budgeting, forecasting and benchmarking. A professionally qualified individual (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), and/or with significant vocational experience, you’ll need a solid background in the preparation of financial and management reports, up to date knowledge of accounting standards and budgetary controls. You’ll be a natural leader with past experience in managing your own team, developing their skills and mentoring their progress. Your skills in identifying potential improvements and leading finance projects will be demonstrable and your experience of using technology in previous roles will be obvious. Most importantly, you’ll possess the ability to recognise the values and cultures of a growing business and hit the ground running within a friendly and likeminded team environment.
