Job summary

MacKenzie King is seeking an Interim Financial Controller for a term of approximately 3 months to provide strategic financial leadership and robust risk management. You will report to the Managing Director and Board, shaping financial strategy, driving performance, and enabling informed decision‑making across the business.

The role covers budgeting, cashflow, year‑end audits, statutory accounts, tax, ERP oversight, and team leadership within a growing SME.

Qualifications

• Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or QBE.
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance leader.
• Experience leading audits and statutory reporting.
• Experience in growing SME environments.
• Involvement in ERP implementations or optimisation.
• Track record of leading finance teams.

Responsibilities

• Ownership of annual budgeting process and rolling 12‑month forecasts.
• High‑level cashflow modelling and liquidity forecasting.
• Treasure/ funding oversight and risk management.
• Lead year‑end statutory audit and manage external auditors.
• Ownership of statutory accounts and corporation tax.
• Oversee monthly payroll and pension compliance; lead finance team.

MacKenzie King are excited to be supporting a local and growing business with the recruitment of an Interim Financial Controller for a term of c.3 months. As an Interim Financial Controller, you will provide strategic financial leadership, robust risk management, and high-quality insight to support business growth. Reporting to the Managing Director and Board, this role plays a critical part in shaping financial strategy, driving performance, and enabling informed decision-making across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy and Planning

• Ownership of the annual budgeting process and rolling 12-month forecasts
• High-level cashflow modelling and liquidity forecasting
• Treasury management and oversight of funding positions

Compliance, Audit, and Risk

• Lead the year-end statutory audit and manage external auditors
• Full responsibility for statutory accounts and Corporation Tax
• Ownership and maintenance of the company Risk Register

Payroll and Team Leadership

• Oversight of monthly payroll and pension compliance
• Leadership, mentoring, and development of the Finance team

Systems and ERP Ownership

• Strategic finance lead
• Ensure the ERP system supports business objectives and strategic decision-making

Group Reporting and Stakeholder Management

• Primary Finance contact for the wider group
• Ensure all group reporting and compliance submissions are accurate, timely, and complete
