Job summary

Wade Macdonald is partnering with a growing fashion/e-commerce group to recruit a Financial Controller in Bristol. The role owns the finance function, delivers accurate reporting, oversees controls and cash flow, and provides commercial insight to support strategic decisions.

The ideal candidate is a qualified accountant with ecommerce experience, proficient in Xero and advanced spreadsheets, and with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Lead day-to-day finance function and oversee all accounting activities.

Financial Controller

Location: Bristol (Hybrid - minimum 3 days per week in the office)
Salary: £70,000 - £80,000

About the Job

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function within a fast-paced ecommerce environment. Working closely with senior leadership, you will provide accurate financial reporting, oversee financial controls, manage cash flow and deliver commercial insight that supports continued business growth.

Duties will include:

• Leading the day-to-day finance function and overseeing all financial accounting activities.
• Producing monthly management accounts, board reports and financial analysis.
• Managing budgets, forecasts and cash flow forecasting.
• Monitoring financial performance and providing commercial recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Maintaining robust financial controls, processes and compliance procedures.
• Managing payroll, supplier payments and expense processes.
• Coordinating statutory reporting, tax matters and external audit requirements with external advisers.
• Preparing VAT information for UK and international reporting requirements.
• Reconciling ecommerce transactions, payment platforms and multi-channel sales activity.
• Supporting international expansion through financial analysis and market planning.
• Managing banking relationships, lending facilities and working capital.
• Collaborating with operational, marketing and product teams to support commercial decision-making.
• Monitoring inventory valuations and stock reconciliations alongside logistics partners.

About the Successful Applicant

You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance position, ideally within an ecommerce environment. You will have strong knowledge of financial reporting, cash flow management and commercial finance, alongside experience using Xero and advanced spreadsheet skills. Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management abilities are essential, together with a hands-on approach and the ability to thrive in a growing business.
