Job summary

Churchill Howard is partnering with a well-established organisation to recruit a Financial Controller based in Birmingham. You will lead a large finance team, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting and continuous improvement across multi-division entities.

The role reports to the Finance Director and focuses on the integrity of accounting across divisions, month-end close, reconciliations and governance in a complex environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent.
• Proven experience in Financial Controller or senior finance leadership.
• Strong financial reporting expertise with focus on controls and governance.
• Experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
• Comfortable operating in a complex, multiple entity environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of nominal ledger entries across entities.
• Own and enhance month-end close with timely, high-quality reporting.
• Lead, develop and mentor a finance team across control and operations.
• Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and financial governance.
• Manage Accounts Payable and treasury back-office processes.
• Drive continuous process improvements and automation opportunities.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to support business decisions.

Churchill Howard is partnering with a well-established and high-performing organisation to recruit a Financial Controller based in Birmingham. This is a key role offering the opportunity to shape and strengthen financial control across a complex, multi-division business.

The RoleReporting directly to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting activity across the divisions. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining robust financial controls, delivering accurate and timely reporting, and driving continuous improvement across finance operations.Leading a large team, you will have oversight of Financial Control and Finance Operations, including financial accounting, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and accounts payable.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all nominal ledger entries across multiple entities
• Own and enhance the month-end close process, ensuring timely and high-quality reporting
• Lead, develop, and mentor a team across financial control and finance operations
• Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong financial governance
• Manage Accounts Payable, Treasury Back Office, and payment processes
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to to improve processes and enhance efficiency, controls, and scalability
• Identify and implement opportunities for automation of processes
• Partner with senior stakeholders to support business decision-making

About You
