Your new company
Join a collaborative finance team as part of an established education provider, reporting to the Finance Director and leading the finance team as Financial Controller. You'll work full-time on-site in Barrow, 35h per week, with flexible working hours. Your new role
As Financial Controller within the Management team, you will be responsible for the operational leadership of all aspects of the finance function, ensuring financial services are provided efficiently across all sites in line with organisational policies, procedures, and financial regulations. Your role will involve maintaining the integrity of all management and statutory accounting while streamlining processes. Key responsibilities include day-to-day operational control of financial and management accounting systems, leading the preparation of year-end financial statements, supporting the annual budget-setting process, and producing timely monthly management accounts, cash flow reports, and reconciliations. You will also manage VAT returns, maintain and develop the chart of accounts, oversee payments to suppliers, and ensure the collection of all debts. Additionally, you will provide timely and accurate reports to managers and governors, lead on area self-assessment and quality improvement plans, and update the organisation on any relevant legislation.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will need to be a Fully Qualified Accountant, or Qualified by Experience (QBE), with significant financial and management accounting experience in a medium-sized organisation. High-quality IT skills, particularly in MS Office packages, and detailed knowledge of spreadsheets and computer-based accounting systems are essential. You should have significant experience of preparing year-end statutory accounts, managing staff, and influencing internal decision-making processes. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are crucial. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with a commitment to high professional and personal standards, are required. Knowledge of VAT registration and compliance rules, as well as relevant legislative requirements and regulations, will be beneficial.
