Job summary

Biffa Waste Services is seeking a commercially minded Financial Analyst (Internal Opportunity) to own accounting, management accounts, and financial reporting for selected business units. You will partner with location managers to deliver accurate financial information, maintain controls, and ensure compliance with procedures.

This role offers the chance to influence business performance through robust financial stewardship, insightful reporting, and close collaboration across the division.

Qualifications

• Graduate or part-qualified accountant with professional body qualification preferred (CIMA/ACCA/ACA/AAT).
• Proven experience in management accounting, period-end processes, purchase orders, and sales invoicing.
• Advanced Excel and strong IT literacy.

Responsibilities

• Own the preparation of monthly management accounts with variance analysis and performance commentary across designated business units.
• Produce accurate and timely monthly reporting packs to support business and divisional reporting requirements.
• Manage monthly CAPEX reporting and forecasting with clear budget vs. plan analysis.
• Collaborate with Finance Business Partners and operational teams to develop budgets, forecasts, and five-year strategic plans.
• Consolidate divisional budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans for Central Finance submission.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations in line with Group policies and controls.
• Support year-end audit processes with robust documentation and auditor queries.
• Deliver financial insight to enable informed commercial decisions across the business.
• Handle monthly customer invoicing accurately and on time.
• Provide support across the Divisional Finance Team and cover during absences.

We are seeking a commercially minded finance professional to take ownership of the accounting, management accounts, and financial reporting for selected business units within the Division. Partnering closely with operational management, including location managers, you will ensure the delivery of accurate financial information, maintain robust financial controls, and drive compliance with established procedures.

Your core responsibilities

• Own the preparation of monthly management accounts, delivering insightful variance analysis and performance commentary across designated business units.
• Produce accurate and timely monthly reporting packs to support business and divisional reporting requirements.
• Manage monthly CAPEX reporting and forecasting, providing clear analysis against budget and investment plans.
• Partner with Finance Business Partners and operational teams to develop budgets, forecasts, and five-year strategic plans.
• Consolidate divisional budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans for submission to Central Finance.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring compliance with Group policies and financial controls.

• Deliver financial insight and analysis that enables informed commercial decision-making across the business.
• Prepare and manage monthly customer invoicing requirements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Provide support across the Divisional Finance Team, maintaining continuity during periods of absence.
• Contribute to ad hoc financial analysis, projects, and business initiatives as required.

Our essential requirements

• Graduate or part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, AAT).
• Previous experience in management accounting, including period-end processes, purchase orders, and sales invoicing.
• Advanced Excel skills with strong overall IT literacy.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships across finance, operational, and commercial teams.
• Proactive, adaptable, and willing to learn new skills.
• Able to work independently, problem solve effectively, and remain calm under pressure.
• Experience within service, logistics, or waste industries would be advantageous.
