Job summary

Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in London for a Finance Analyst to join the Pension Fund team on a temporary six-month basis. The postholder will play a key role in the financial management and reporting of the Pension Fund.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong accounting experience and an understanding on pension fund accounting, particularly within the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant or equivalent experience with local authority accounting knowledge.
• Experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, year-end processes, and statutory returns.
• Experience in pension fund accounting and LGPS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Produce Pension Fund financial reports, annual accounts and supporting working papers.
• Reconcile ledgers to LGPS/Teachers’ Pension records and resolve discrepancies.
• Complete year-end adjustments, statutory returns and respond to audit queries.
• Support Pension Fund Committee and Board reports and assist investment discussions.

The postholder will play a key role in the financial management and reporting of the Pension Fund. Key Responsibilities

• Produce accurate Pension Fund financial reports, annual accounts, annual reports and supporting working papers.
• Reconcile the financial ledger to LGPS and Teachers’ Pension records, resolving discrepancies and ensuring accurate income and expenditure reporting.
• Complete year-end adjustments, statutory returns, account disclosures and respond promptly to audit queries.
• Provide financial monitoring and analysis, support Pension Fund Committee and Board reports, and assist with investment strategy and transactions.

Candidate Criteria

• Qualified accountant or equivalent experience, with strong knowledge of financial accounting and controls within local authority.
• Experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, year-end processes and statutory returns; local government or pension fund experience is desirable.
• Strong analytical and systems skills, including Oracle Financials, with the ability to identify trends, variances and financial risks.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information and work to strict deadlines.
