Job summary

Wesleyan Group in the UK is seeking a Group Financial Accountant to support the group’s regulated businesses. You will ensure accurate accounting records, adherence to statutory requirements, and strong internal controls within a dynamic financial services environment.

The role offers a hybrid working pattern, with office presence in Birmingham, and exposure to a broad range of financial accounting activities across the group.

Qualifications

  • Graduate with a relevant degree seeking to pursue a career in accounting.
  • Some experience within financial services is desirable.
  • Pursuing recognised Accounting Qualification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with subsidiary bank reconciliations in line with CASS rules.
  • Handle core monthly accounting processes: journal posting, invoices and GL review.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations by internal deadlines; resolve issues.
  • Assist with regulatory returns to HMRC, FCA and others as required.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and liaise with cross-team stakeholders.
  • Identify and implement process improvements in ongoing work.
  • Support external auditor enquiries and other finance tasks as needed.

Salary: Competitive, based on skills and experience

Contract Type: 12 Month FTC – 35 hours a week

Location: Hybrid working (office based in Birmingham) – typically 2 days in the office per week

Make a Difference in Group Financial Accounting

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Group Financial Accounting team, where you’ll broaden your experience and further develop your financial accounting skills in a supportive and dynamic environment.

You’ll play a key role in helping to maintain accurate accounting records across the Group’s regulated businesses and the Society, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, financial controls, and company policies.

This role offers excellent exposure to a wide range of financial accounting activities within a financial services setting. You’ll have the opportunity to build your technical expertise, strengthen your financial control and reporting skills, and gain valuable insight into the operations of a large and complex organisation.

Your Impact

Here’showyou’llmake a difference:

  • Assist with completion of subsidiary bank account reconciliations in accordance with CASS (FCA Client Asset Sourcebook), gaining a competent understanding of CASS rules and their application.
  • Assist with core monthly accounting processes within Group Finance such as journal posting, invoice posting and general ledger account review and analysis.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations in line with internal deadlines, investigating and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the completion of various regulatory returns to e.g. HMRC, FCA and other regulatory bodies as required.
  • Complete additional financial analysis as necessary to support and investigate ad hoc enquires and issues, liaising with relevant cross team stakeholders.
  • Apply continuous improvement principles to work, identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Complete other ad-hoc finance tasks as required, such as assisting with external auditor enquiries.

  • Be an Intermediate user of standard Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Demonstrate a proficient level of numeric literacy, with ability to problem solve.
  • Be a keen collaborator and team player with a flexible approach to work, who can work on their own initiate with some supervision.

You’re likely to be

  • A Graduate with a relevant degree seeking to pursue a career in accounting or already training (self-funded) for a recognised Accounting Qualification.
  • Some experience within a financial services environment is desirable.
