Job summary

FryerMiles is looking for a technically strong Financial Accountant to own Capex accounting, reporting and forecasting for capital expenditure and fixed assets in Reading, Berkshire. The role is permanent with a hybrid work pattern (3 days in the office) and offers a competitive £60,000–£70,000 salary plus bonus and benefits.

You will report to the Finance Manager and collaborate across the business to deliver accurate monthly Capex results, perform month-end closing, and maintain robust

Qualifications

• Strong Capex and fixed assets accounting background.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Ability to prepare journals, reconciliations and supporting statutory reporting documentation.
• Advanced Excel skills and data modelling; comfortable with finance systems and reporting tools.
• Excellent attention to detail and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

FryerMiles is delighted to be supporting an exciting opportunity that has arisen for a technically strong Financial Accountant to join an established organisation, taking ownership of financial accounting, reporting and forecasting activities relating to capital expenditure (Capex) and fixed assets.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in delivering accurate and timely financial information, overseeing month-end processes, maintaining robust financial controls and supporting budgeting and forecasting activities.

This role offers a blend of hands-on financial accounting and commercial analysis, with the opportunity to work closely with stakeholders across the business, influence decision-making and drive continuous improvement within the finance function.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Deliver accurate monthly Capex results, including financial analysis and performance commentary.
• Manage month-end activities, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting.
• Maintain the fixed asset register, ensuring the accuracy of work in progress (WIP) and asset retirement obligations.
• Support statutory reporting, preparation of audit documentation and external audit requirements.
• Ensure financial information is complete, accurate and compliant with relevant regulatory and contractual standards.

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Own the Capex financial forecast, coordinating updates and ensuring accurate reporting.
• Work with stakeholders to prepare, present and obtain approval for budget submissions and forecast updates.
• Conduct variance analysis, identify risks and opportunities, and provide meaningful performance commentary.
• Support the Finance Manager with key financial metrics and management reporting.

Business Partnering & Process Improvement

• Collaborate with teams across the organisation to ensure financial data is accurately recorded and reported.
• Support customer billing activities and ensure associated financial processes operate effectively.
• Identify opportunities to improve finance systems, reporting processes and controls.
• Respond to ad hoc financial queries and contribute to wider finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.

You will have a strong financial accounting background, excellent analytical skills and the ability to manage complex financial data while delivering accurate, insightful reporting.

You will ideally bring:

• Experience in financial accounting, reporting and month-end processes.
• Strong knowledge of Capex, fixed assets and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience in budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• The ability to prepare journals, reconciliations and supporting statutory reporting documentation.
• Strong Excel skills, including data modelling, and confidence working with finance systems and reporting tools.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach.

Experience with ERP systems such as Agresso would be particularly advantageous.
