Role Summary and Purpose
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant to join a growing UK business with operations across multiple platforms including UK and Irish Insurance Companies, multiple Lloyd’s Syndicates and a large UK regional branch network.
The role is at the centre of finance and will offer the right candidate a wide range of responsibilities across the finance function, including but not exclusively reporting of the P&C Insurance division of the Irish entity under US and Irish GAAP and reconciliations of technical balances.
Location for the role will be hybrid between home working and the London office.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Contribute to the quarter close process, by completing complex manually quarter close processes, as well as supporting and reviewing junior accountants’ quarter close work;
Ownership of intercompany relationship, including completion of quarterly postings as well as ownership of stakeholder relationships;
Point person for the external auditors during half year, interim and year-end audit cycles;
Ownership of the financial control environment, including but not limited to ensuring efficient and effective operation of the finance SOX controls;
Input to production of annual financial statements for AIUK and manage the AIEU P&C division template to agreed deadlines;
Preparation of technical accounting memos when required, e.g. acquisition accounting, changes in accounting policies etc.;
Drive process improvements across the finance division using automation where applicable;
Project involvement, including corporate restructure, balance sheet reconciliations and system integration;
Provide support to the UK Financial Controller as and when required;
Liaise with other stakeholders across the business and be proactive in problem solving in a collaborative way.
Role Requirements & Skills
Skills / Competencies
Strong technical accounting skills and understanding of US GAAP and UK/Irish GAAP;
Good attention to detail;
Proactive with strong problem-solving skills;
A strong team player with the ability to be “hands on”;
High competence in Excel;
Previous experience with Workday and OneStream desirable.
Qualifications
University degree and professional certification;
ACA, ACCA, CIMA qualified (or equivalent).
Experience
Minimum of 2 years PQ experience;
Insurance market experience;
Preferably previous financial reporting experience.
