We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Financial Accountant to join our Finance team in Leeds. This role can be worked flexibly with up to two days a week from home. Please note our Leeds office will be moving to Leeds city centre in Spring / Summer 2026.

What does the role involve?

You will be delivering the financial reporting and control activity for the Sweco UK business. Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Preparation and delivery of UK statutory accounts.
  • Taking responsibility for UK taxation (Corporation and Employment Tax) including preparation of corporation tax computations, VAT returns, general tax compliance and reconciliation of tax control accounts within the General Ledger.
  • Being the lead contact for external and internal auditors.
  • Taking ownership of Local Financial Control Framework (FCF), finance policies and procedures and working to enhance process and control throughout the finance function and the business.
  • Taking responsibility for the intercompany process and month end reconciliations.
  • Leading the project to simplify the current legal entity structure.
  • Acting as a stakeholder in the treasury approvals / bank administrations services.
  • Supporting projects and group initiatives with the BAFC as required.
To be successful in this role you’ll possess:
  • Professional membership / qualifications such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA together with extensive experience in preparation of group accounts.
  • A good knowledge of accounting software with excellent Microsoft skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • Experience of auditing or collaborating closely with auditors.
  • The ability to produce high quality financial reporting for leadership decision making.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent commercial acumen with a thorough understanding of end to end P&L and balance sheet of a professional services / contract business.
  • The ability to influence strategic decision making within the business and be able to make commercial decisions with defined parameters (delivering to agreed project scope, time, cost and quality).
  • Some experience of foreign VAT would be advantageous.
