Job Description

We are searching for a Finance Manager – Payroll and Workforce to oversee staff costs, including payroll, accounting, reporting, and forecasting. This senior role will support Our Future Health during an exciting growth phase, providing insights and ensuring alignment across financial and operational plans. The candidate will work closely with the Executive Committee and People & Culture team, offering guidance and resolving queries independently.

Our Future Health aims to be the UK’s largest health research program, involving 5 million volunteers to advance understanding of health and disease, supported by the UK Government and partnerships across the NHS and charities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage payroll, pensions, and related reconciliations, liaising with the People & Culture team and payroll providers.
  • Review staff-related financial accounts, ensuring controls and reporting accuracy.
  • Prepare headcount reports and analyze management accounts for staff costs.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll tax and regulations.
  • Lead staff cost forecasting, aligning with operational plans and organizational goals.
  • Handle staff-related accounting processes, including salary allocations, capitalization of staff costs, and recharge reporting.
  • Maintain accurate role IDs and track job title changes.
  • Serve as finance contact for workforce queries and support management reporting.
  • Develop and document internal controls and processes related to staff costs.
  • Review payroll and expense claim processes for efficiency and compliance.
  • Assist with staff cost audits and reporting for external audits.
  • Support forecasting and reporting evolution in line with business needs.
  • Perform ad-hoc tasks and cover for other finance team members as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • Experience managing payroll processes and related accounting activities with strong controls.
  • Experience in FP&A and financial business partnering, especially headcount and workforce budgeting.
  • Recognized accounting qualification with at least five years of relevant experience, including at least one outside practice.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, payroll, and financial controls.
  • Excellent attention to detail and reporting accuracy.
  • Strong Excel and financial modeling skills, with the ability to communicate insights effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trusted relationships.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in a startup or high-uncertainty environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of scientific research or healthcare organizations is advantageous.
