Job Title: Finance Manager, Group Financial Reporting
Reports to: Head of Group Accounting

ROLE DESCRIPTION
Channel 4’s Finance department acts as a trusted advisor to the business, supporting and informing decision making through insightful analysis, expert opinion and timely and accurate reporting. We aim to efficiently and effectively ensure the sustainability of Channel 4 through a strong system of financial control and compliance.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Finance Manager, Group Financial Reporting role will sit within Group Reporting and Control, a team of 15 within the overall Finance department of approximately 50. This team is led by the Head of Group Accounting and is responsible for:
- Supporting financial discipline ensuring strong financial controls alongside timely and accurate reporting of all critical finance measures (BS, P&L, cash and KPI’s for actual performance against forecasts, budgets and Plans) to underpin delivery of the Fast Forward strategy
- Leading our internal and external reporting processes to key stakeholders: internal stakeholders will include the CEO Committee, Executive Management Board, C4 Board, Board committees (Audit & Risk and RemCo) and key external stakeholders UKGI, DCMS and Ofcom
- Working with all areas of the organisation, giving financial guidance on financial reporting, new investments, projects and ventures, and all general finance matters
- Working towards continuous improvement, simplifying financial systems and processes, and supporting innovation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance operating model
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Year End Reporting
- Coordinate the internal year end process and the preparation and review of deliverables for the external audit and other assurance engagements
- Act as a key day-to-day contact for the external auditors, providing support, analysis and explanations for key accounting and judgemental issues
- Prepare accounting papers to explain key accounting judgements or developments such as new group investments or commercial ventures, and detailed financial updates for the Audit & Risk Committee
- Prepare financial narrative for the Channel 4 Annual Report, and review preparation of the detailed financial statements and disclosures
- Support on sustainability reporting deliverables, automation of data, and assurance requirements
- Support internal teams with financial messaging, scripts and Q&A (incl. AR launch, Select Committee)
- Review statutory accounts for three subsidiary trading companies, including adjustments required from group accounts, commentary and disclosures
- Coordinate and review Whole of Government Accounts reporting
Monthly and Quarterly Reporting
- Produce key deliverables for financial and regulatory stakeholders, including monthly/quarterly financial reporting and analysis to Government stakeholder, as well as requirements with Ofcom, HM Treasury/Whole of Government Accounts process, ONS
- Support consolidation of monthly performance pack to Exec and Board, using dashboards, visuals and commentary to monitor KPIs and explain variances
- Input into quarterly detailed balance sheet review of each business within the group, with specific emphasis on identifying potential audit issues and adjustments to the income statement
- Support the review and completion of the financial analysis for the group including 12 month rolling cash forecast, capex and fixed asset maintenance, covenant monitoring, and channel profitability reporting
Risk and control environment
- Support regular operation and monitoring of key control processes within the Reporting and Control team, including P&L variance analysis and reporting to stakeholders, regular reviews of each business’s balance sheet within the group to identify any emerging issues, and manual journal review
- Contribute to systems transformation projects and ensure control requirements embedded by design
- Assist with maintaining key control and reference documents including Delegated Authorities Matrix and Key Controls checklist
Business Support
- Provide technical accounting advice to Finance team and rest of business on new projects, contracts and ventures
- Guide the management reporting team on appropriate practice for month end procedures and accounting guidance, continually driving improvements in consistency and quality of deliverables
- Keep up to date on latest IFRS standards and other accounting developments and their impact on C4’s accounting policies and reporting
- Support continuing improvement of C4’s Chart of Accounts to achieve efficiencies and standardisation in reporting
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
- ACA / ACCA qualified accountant with 5+ years post-qualification experience
- Sound working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards with experience of group accounting and preparation of PLC style Annual Reports and subsidiary financial statements
- Flexible and able to work to tight deadlines
- Professional and confident attitude and able to work independently
- Strong PowerPoint skills and proven ability to convey complex concepts clearly and concisely
- Customer orientated with proven ability to develop close relationships with key contacts and understand key business issues
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills with all levels of the business
- Demonstrable ability to improve / give valuable contribution to improvement in systems and processes

- Experience of Oracle financials and Workday Adaptive Planning
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
