Job description

About us

The finance team is a centralised team working closely with services to provide financial advice and expertise. You will play a crucial role in supporting the objectives of the finance team in building relationships, maintaining value for money and coming up with new and innovative ways of working.

We currently have an exciting vacancy within our team to enable us to continue to build on our success and also bring new experience, knowledge and ideas into the team.

We work in a hybrid way, mixing working days in the office with working in a home environment. As part of this team you will be expected to work from the office as part of a team for a minimum of two days per week.

You will work alongside colleagues within the finance team and be responsible for the effective delivery of cost management, budget review and highlighting efficiencies across the revenue budgets of the Adults and Health Partnerships Directorate.

About the Role

This role will provide financial support to the finance team and service leads within the Adults and Health Partnerships Directorate. The Adults and Health Partnerships Directorate covers a range of services including Adult Social Care, Public Health, Housing Options, Salford Assist, Welfare Rights and Debt Advice and our Health Improvement Service. It is an exciting time to join the finance team in Salford with a number of high profile workstreams currently underway looking to help the organisation deliver its priorities. We have an ambitious programme of transformation to help ensure that the services we deliver offer the best possible support to service users within the City. We also work closely with partners in Health to deliver Adult Social Care in the City.

About you

If you have a high performing track record of achieving solutions, you're looking to make a difference and want to be part of a strong team culture we would like to hear from you. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can operate as part of a team delivering results in support of the wider finance team. You will be proactive, dynamic, motivated and have the drive to meet strict deadlines. You will be a fully qualified accountant (or qualified through experience) who enjoys a fast moving, dynamic workload, with significant accounting and commercial experience involving funding models; management accounting; budgeting and forecasting. You will also have significant experience in business partnering across multiple finance and non-finance teams; preparing budgets and forecasts; have strong communication skills (both written and verbal); and the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders using a variety of forms of communication. Previous knowledge of working in a Local Authority is not necessarily required.

Please ensure your covering letter / supporting statement describes how your skills and experience meet 'what we need from you'.

To find out more about this role, please contact Stephen Thynne via email stephen.thynne@salford.gov.uk. Please do not send your CV to this email as it will not be accepted.

We will not be accepting candidates who require a sponsorship for this position.
