Job summary

Hewett Recruitment has a Worcester-based Finance Manager role offering hybrid working and a salary of £40,000 - £45,000. You will hand-on manage the day-to-day finance function, overseeing a Finance Assistant and reporting to the Board with meaningful financial analysis.

The role covers management accounts, cash flow, VAT, payroll, foreign currency invoicing, and financial reporting. You will drive process improvements and strengthen controls in a growing SME.

Qualifications

• Experience as Finance Manager or similar level.
• Hands-on with management accounts, cash flow and VAT.
• Strong Xero knowledge and payroll exposure.
• Excellent Excel skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Producing monthly management accounts, forecasts and financial reports.
• Preparing and presenting monthly and year-to-date financial information.
• Managing cash flow forecasting and company bank accounts.
• Handling foreign currency invoicing and transactions.
• Overseeing VAT returns and ensuring VAT compliance.
• Managing purchase and sales ledgers, including supplier payments.
• Overseeing payroll, PAYE, NI and pension requirements.
• Managing credit control and reducing aged debt.
• Monitoring expenditure and supporting budget management.
• Reviewing and improving financial systems and controls.
• Maintaining Xero and ensuring best use of the platform.
• Supporting financial planning and providing analysis to the Board.
• Managing banking relationships and supporting insurance renewals.
• Overseeing and supporting a part-time Finance Assistant.

Finance Manager

Worcester | Hybrid Working | £40,000 - £45,000

Are you an experienced Finance Manager who enjoys being hands-on while also having the opportunity to influence financial decision-making?

We're looking for a confident and commercially minded Finance Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function for an established organisation based in Worcester.

This is a varied role where you'll be responsible for everything from management accounts, cash flow and VAT through to payroll, foreign currency invoicing and financial reporting. You'll also oversee a Finance Assistant and work closely with the Board, providing meaningful financial information and analysis to support future plans.

What will you be doing?

• Producing monthly management accounts, forecasts and financial reports
• Preparing and presenting monthly and year-to-date financial information
• Managing cash flow forecasting and company bank accounts
• Handling foreign currency invoicing and transactions
• Overseeing VAT returns and ensuring VAT compliance
• Managing purchase and sales ledgers, including supplier payments
• Overseeing payroll, PAYE, National Insurance and pension requirements
• Managing credit control and keeping aged debt to a minimum
• Monitoring expenditure and supporting budget management
• Reviewing and improving financial systems, processes and internal controls
• Maintaining the Xero accounting system and ensuring Xero is used as effectively as possible
• Supporting financial planning and providing analysis to the Board
• Managing banking relationships and supporting annual insurance renewals
• Overseeing and supporting a part-time Finance Assistant

What are we looking for?

You'll be an experienced, hands-on finance professional who is comfortable managing the detail while also seeing the bigger commercial picture.

You must have:

• AAT Level 4 qualification minimum
• Previous Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar level experience
• Strong management accounts and financial reporting experience
• Foreign currency invoicing experience
• Good VAT knowledge and practical VAT experience
• Experience of cash flow forecasting and financial control
• Strong working knowledge of Xero essential
• Payroll experience, ideally including Sage Line 50 Payroll
• Strong Excel skills
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
• The confidence to improve processes and financial controls
• Strong communication and commercial awareness

Previous experience within an SME environment would be particularly beneficial.
