Job summary

Cathedral Appointments is recruiting on behalf of a well-established Not-for-Profit organisation based in Somerset for an experienced Finance Manager to lead the Finance team and shape the organisation's financial strategy.

The role combines hands-on financial management, including budgeting, forecasting and statutory reporting, with line management of a small finance team. Hybrid working is available and the post is based in Taunton.

Qualifications

• Qualified to AAT Level 4 (ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA desirable).
• Significant experience in a similar finance role.
• Proficient IT skills, especially Xero and Office 365.
• Excellent communication across audiences.
• Experience leading a small finance team.

Cathedral Appointments is recruiting on behalf of a well-established Not for Profit organisation based in Somerset. The client is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead their Finance team and play a key role in shaping the organisation's financial strategy.

The Role

Working closely with the Head of Finance, you will help deliver a professional finance service to the Board, Senior Leadership Team and budget holders, providing financial advice, guidance and support across the organisation. The role combines hands‑on financial management, including budgeting, forecasting and statutory reporting, with line management of a small finance team. It suits an experienced finance professional who is confident operating both technically and strategically, and who wants their work to support a genuinely purpose‑driven organisation.

Responsibilities for the Finance Manager:

• Provide financial and business advice and analysis to support senior leadership in shaping strategic direction
• Review budgets with managers and budget holders, providing guidance, challenge and support with forecasting
• Ensure financial regulations and policies are kept up to date and adhered to
• Support the preparation of accounts for audit, providing explanations for variances
• Complete relevant statutory and regulatory returns, including claims to HMRC and the Charity Commission where required
• Lead, manage and develop a small finance team, including line management and performance reviews

Requirements for the Finance Manager include:

• Qualified to at least AAT Level 4 (ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA desirable)
• Considerable experience in a similar finance role
• High level of IT literacy, with confidence using Xero and Office 365
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex financial information to a range of audiences
• Experience managing or supervising a team
• Up to £45,000 per annum
• Full time, hybrid working
• 27 days holiday plus bank holidays, rising to 32 days after 5 years' service
