Job description

Finance Manager

Bath Hybrid working c£39,000 - £43,000 Full-time or 0.8 FTE Permanent

Are you an experienced finance professional looking for a varied role where you can make a real impact?

We're working with a fantastic Bath-based education charity to recruit a Finance Manager to join their friendly and supportive team. The organisation is currently going through an exciting period of development and modernisation, making this a great time to come on board and help shape an effective, forward-looking finance function.

Reporting to the Head of Operations and managing a small finance team, you'll take responsibility for the smooth running of day-to-day finance while working closely with colleagues across the organisation.

The role will include:

  • Managing the day-to-day finance function and supporting the finance team

  • Producing management information and variance analysis for budget holders

  • Supporting budgeting, reforecasting, cash-flow forecasting and year-end reporting

  • Overseeing purchase and sales ledger activity, reconciliations and financial controls

  • Monitoring restricted and designated funds

  • Coordinating preparation for the year-end audit

  • Supporting VAT processes and returns

  • Helping colleagues understand budgets and finance processes through advice and training

  • Supporting the continued development of the organisation's digital finance systems and processes

The organisation has recently moved its finance processes onto Iplicit, so you'll also play an important role in ensuring the new system is embedded successfully and identifying opportunities to make finance processes even more efficient.

About you

They're looking for someone with solid hands-on finance experience who enjoys working collaboratively and supporting non-finance colleagues.

You'll ideally be part-qualified ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA, or Level 4 AAT, with experience of management accounts, purchase and sales ledgers and financial reporting. Knowledge of accounting standards and Charity Commission guidance would be useful.

Previous experience managing or developing a small team would be particularly valuable, alongside strong Excel skills and the ability to build positive relationships with people at all levels.

Most importantly, this role will suit someone who is helpful, approachable and comfortable getting stuck into the detail, while also looking for ways to improve how things are done.

Salary: c£39,000 - £43,000
Location: Bath / hybrid working
Hours: Full-time or 0.8 FTE
