Job summary

Reed in Liverpool is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead the finance function within a long-established, employee-owned manufacturer. You will oversee accounts payable and receivable, provide strategic financial insight, and drive robust reporting as part of a structured handover from the retiring manager.

The role requires a minimum of five years in accounting, Sage 50 experience, and strong Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' accounting and finance experience.
• Experience preparing management accounts.
• Sage 50 Accounts & Payroll experience.
• Payroll processing experience.
• Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS).
• Strong VAT knowledge, reconciliations and month-end procedures.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to own the finance function independently.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, P&L and balance sheet reporting.
• Forecast cashflow, budget and financial plans.
• Conduct month-end processes including accruals and prepayments.
• Handle VAT returns, payroll and pension administration.
• Manage bank reconciliations, credit control and cash management.
• Maintain fixed asset register and costing/margin analysis.
• Liaise with external accountants for audits.
• Supervise and support one direct report.
• Maintain robust financial controls and reporting processes.

Finance Manager

Location: Liverpool (L6)
Salary: Up to GBP40,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm (30-minute lunch)
Working Pattern: Full-time, Office-Based
Reporting To: Managing Director

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager to join a long-established, employee-owned manufacturing business in Liverpool.

Due to the planned retirement of the current Finance Manager, we are seeking a trustworthy, confident and approachable finance professional to take ownership of the finance function. A structured handover and transition period will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager or someone ready to step into their first management role.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will oversee the finance function, manage one Accounts Payable & Receivable team member and provide valuable financial insight to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of monthly management accounts, P&L and balance sheet reporting
• Cashflow forecasting, budgeting and financial planning
• Month-end processes including accruals and prepayments
• VAT returns, payroll and pension administration
• Bank reconciliations, credit control and cash management
• Fixed asset register maintenance
• Costing, pricing and margin analysis
• Audit preparation and liaison with external accountants
• Managing and supporting one direct report
• Maintaining financial controls and reporting processes

Essential Requirements

• Minimum 5 years' accounting and finance experience
• Experience preparing management accounts
• Sage 50 Accounts & Payroll experience
• Payroll processing experience
• Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and SUMIFS
• Strong knowledge of VAT, reconciliations and month-end procedures
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of the finance function

Desirable Experience

• Previous Finance Manager experience
• CIS reconciliations and CIS returns
• White Card costing system experience
• Manufacturing, construction or product-based business experience
• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification
• Qualified by Experience candidates are also encouraged to apply
