Job summary

Sharp Consultancy seeks an experienced Senior Management Accountant to join its Leeds finance team. You will own the management accounts across multiple locations, mentor two finance professionals, and partner with operational leaders to drive profitability.

The role offers exposure to senior leadership, involvement in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making within a growing, multi-site business.

Qualifications

• Qualified with CIMA/ACCA/ACA (or finalist).
• Experience as Senior Management Accountant or Finance Manager.
• Experience leading a small finance team.

• Excellent Excel and financial reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly management accounts across multiple locations.
• Lead and develop a team of two finance professionals.
• Produce monthly board packs with detailed analysis and commentary.
• Prepare annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
• Produce weekly KPI reports for operational managers and the senior leadership team.
• Deliver variance analysis, identify risks, opportunities and trends.
• Partner with operational leaders to improve financial performance.
• Monitor payroll, operating costs and overheads for efficiency.
• Support quarterly VAT returns preparation.
• Assist with statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors.
• Drive financial controls and lead finance system improvements.

Job description

Growing multi-site business based in Leeds currently requires an experienced CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualified Senior Management Accountant to join the finance team during an exciting period of continued growth and investment. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious, commercially minded accountant looking to take ownership of the management accounting function while leading and developing a small team.

Managing and mentoring a team of two, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality financial reporting, partnering with operational stakeholders and driving continuous improvement across the finance function. This position offers excellent exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence strategic decision-making within a fast-paced, multi-site environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Full ownership of the monthly management accounts process across multiple business locations.
• Leading, mentoring and developing a team of two finance professionals, ensuring high performance and continuous development.
• Producing monthly board packs, including detailed financial analysis, KPI reporting and insightful commentary.
• Preparing annual budgets and rolling forecasts, providing robust financial planning and commercial insight.
• Producing weekly KPI reports for operational managers and the senior leadership team.
• Delivering detailed variance analysis, identifying risks, opportunities and key business trends.
• Business partnering with operational leaders to improve financial performance and support commercial decision-making.
• Monitoring payroll, operating costs and overheads, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
• Supporting the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns.
• Assisting with the production of statutory accounts and liaising with external auditors throughout the year-end process.
• Maintaining strong financial controls and driving process improvements across finance systems and reporting.
• Supporting finance transformation projects and wider business improvement initiatives.

To be considered you will ideally demonstrate the following experience:

• CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified (or finalist with relevant experience).
• Previous experience operating at Senior Management Accountant, Finance Manager or Financial Controller level.
• Experience managing or mentoring a small finance team.
• Strong background within a multi-site business environment.
• Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to influence operational stakeholders.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting systems.
• A proactive approach with a proven ability to improve processes and add commercial value.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with the confidence to work closely with senior management.
