FINANCE MANAGER

High-Growth UK E-commerce Business (Essential Requirement)

THE OPPORTUNITY

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function within a rapidly growing, international direct-to-consumer e-commerce business.

This is a hands-on financial controllership role with genuine ownership and influence. You will be responsible for the integrity of the numbers from end to end, lead the month-end process, produce meaningful management information and help develop the finance infrastructure required to support continued growth.

Reporting directly to the Finance Director & CFO, you will have regular exposure to senior leadership, founders and external advisors. You will also manage and develop a small, growing finance team, with the opportunity to shape the structure of the function as the business scales.

YOUR KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Financial Control & Month-End
  • You will take full ownership of the financial close process, ensuring the business has accurate and timely financial information.
  • Lead the month-end close process from start to finish.
  • Deliver an accurate P&L and balance sheet within 5-7 days of month end.
  • Produce monthly management accounts and supporting analysis.
  • Maintain full ownership of the general ledger and balance sheet.
  • Oversee COGS, product costing and inventory valuation.
  • Manage accruals, prepayments and VAT treatment.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of balance sheet accounts.
  • Establish and embed robust financial controls and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct regular balance sheet reviews and reconciliation.
  • Work alongside the Finance Director on finance transformation and improvement projects.
International & Group Accounting
  • Manage accounting across UK and US entities.
  • Prepare and oversee group consolidation.
  • Manage intercompany accounting and eliminations.
  • Oversee multi-currency accounting and translation.
Management Information & Commercial Reporting
  • Prepare the monthly management reporting pack.
  • Report on P&L, balance sheet and cash flow performance.
  • Produce meaningful variance analysis and commentary.
Cash, Treasury & Working Capital
  • Prepare payment runs for approval.
  • Oversee the accounts payable cycle.
  • Monitor working capital performance.
  • Manage the cash conversion cycle.
Tax, Compliance & Audit
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns.
  • Coordinate corporate tax filings.
  • Support statutory reporting requirements across the group.
  • Manage UK and US compliance requirements.
Team Leadership & Development
  • You will lead a small but growing finance team and set the standards for how the function operates.
  • Manage, mentor and review the work of junior finance team members.
  • Help shape the structure and recruitment strategy for the finance team.
Essential Experience
  • This role requires someone who understands the financial dynamics of a high-volume, direct-to-consumer e-commerce environment.
  • You should bring:
  • Proven experience working within, or supporting, a DTC/e-commerce business.
  • Strong understanding of e-commerce accounting and how the underlying numbers behave.
  • Experience using A2X, Dext and Xero - with the ability to configure, manage and troubleshoot the systems independently.
  • Fully qualified accountant - ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • At least 4-5 years' relevant post-qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced Excel capability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

We are proud to be an equal opportunities employer and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds and circumstances, including minorities and those with disabilities.
