Job summary

HFG in London is seeking a Finance Manager for a leading international insurance business. You will oversee technical accounting, financial controls and month-end reporting, and manage a small team of accountants.

This role covers underwriting results, GL reconciliations, and ensuring US GAAP compliance, with close collaboration across FP&A, Actuarial, Reinsurance and Regulatory Reporting. Experience in insurance accounting and people leadership is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual underwriting results process.

• Oversee technical GL reconciliations, controls and data quality.
• Ensure accurate underwriting allocations across line of business, currency and accounting standards.
• Reconcile core financial systems and resolve data issues.
• Support audit requirements and collaborate with FP&A, Actuarial, Reinsurance and Regulatory Reporting.
• Drive improvements to month-end processes, controls and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP.

Job description

I'm currently recruiting for a Finance Manager to join a leading international insurance business in London.

This is a key role within the finance function, with responsibility for technical accounting, financial controls and month-end reporting, alongside the management of a small team.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading the monthly, quarterly and annual underwriting results process.
• Managing and developing a small team of accountants.
• Ownership of technical accounting month-end, including premiums, claims, acquisition costs, case reserves and IBNR.
• Oversight of technical GL reconciliations, controls and data quality.
• Ensuring accurate underwriting allocations across line of business, accident year, year of account, statutory class and currency.
• Reconciliation across core financial systems and resolution of data issues.
• Supporting audit requirements and working closely with FP&A, Actuarial, Reinsurance and Regulatory Reporting.
• Driving improvements to month-end processes, controls and reporting.
• Ensuring compliance with US GAAP requirements.

What we're looking for

To be successful in this finance manager role, you'll have to have the following experience:

• Strong insurance accounting experience.
• Proven experience owning or leading an insurance month-end
• US GAAP knowledge, preferably within insurance.
• Previous people management or team leadership experience.
• ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification is desirable.
