Job description

The Finance Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the Finance Director and driving effective financial management across the business. This is a hands-on position that combines day-to-day financial operations with team leadership and strategic input. Ideal for a recently qualified finance professional with 3 - 4 years of relevant media experience who is ready to take on greater responsibility.

You will oversee core finance functions including bookkeeping, month-end close, media accruals, project revenue recognition, reporting and forecasting, while line managing two Finance Assistants. You’ll be expected to take initiative, implement and refine processes and bring clarity and structure to a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Your strong spreadsheet skills, knowledge of finance systems and ability to communicate clearly across all levels of the business will be key to your success.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is organised, reliable, and proactive - someone who thrives on ownership, enjoys building effective processes and is confident providing feedback up and down. Experience in media or service-based companies is a plus, as is any background in implementing financial tools or systems.

Responsibilities
  • Heading up the finance team while reporting to the FD.

  • Represent the finance function in internal meetings and discussions.

  • Review and approve sales invoices and supplier purchase requests.

  • Lead the month-end process, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.

  • Oversee project financial management through our Budget Sheet system, ensuring revenue is accurately recognised, costs and media spend are accrued, and project financials remain up to date.

  • Line manage, coach, and support two Finance Assistants.

  • Maintain high professional standards and deliver excellent internal service.

  • Plan and prioritise workload effectively, ensuring clear and timely communication.

  • Produce accurate reports, budgets, and forecasts with variance analysis to support decision-making.

  • Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and financial processes.

  • Take ownership of financial operations and reporting for allocated accounts.

  • Monitor and analyse financial performance on a monthly and annual basis.

  • Support teams by constructively challenging assumptions to help achieve financial targets.
    People Management Responsibilities

  • Support your direct reports by setting clear expectations, giving helpful feedback, and encouraging a positive, collaborative work environment.

  • Effectively oversee junior team members, ensuring workloads are sufficiently monitored & prioritised to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Continuously monitor, evaluate, and refine team performance by setting clear, measurable goals and providing thoughtful, regular feedback during 1:1s and performance reviews. Acting as a mentor and supporting their professional growth through personalised development plans.

  • Lead on internal meetings and training sessions, fostering a positive and collaborative team atmosphere. Model best practices to inspire and guide team members.

  • Contribute to recruitment efforts, conducting interviews and managing onboarding processes to ensure new hires are smoothly integrated into the team.

  • Actively look out for your direct report’s mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing, providing support when needed, sharing company resources and escalating to the People Team when necessary.

  • Champion equity, diversity and inclusion within the team, fostering an environment where all employees feel valued and respected.

  • Recently qualified - ACA, ACCA, CIMA.

  • 3 - 4 years of relevant work experience in a finance or accounting role.

  • Experience in media or service-based businesses.

  • Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and core financial principles.

  • Advanced spreadsheet skills with proven application in analysis and reporting.

  • Confident learning and using new systems, with experience in finance applications.

  • Experience improving or implementing financial processes, not just maintaining them.

  • Organised, reliable, and detail-oriented with strong time management.

  • Positive, proactive, and able to work independently to create structure.

  • Previous experience managing or mentoring team members, with a desire to lead.

  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback at all levels.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience using AI to improve workflows and create process efficiencies

  • 25-day holiday allowance excluding Bank Holidays (plus extra time off over the Christmas period) and one extra day's holiday accrued for the first three years of service
