Location: Home/Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh

At ECHC, we believe no child should face hospital alone. Every day, we work with some incredible people to help children and families in hospital — and behind the scenes, our finance team is at the heart of it all. Now, we need a fantasticFinance Managerto keep things running smoothly, make the most of our resources, and support projects that make coming to hospital less scary, and a lot more fun.

A bit about the role:

You’ll be the finance lead across the charity, keeping everything ticking behind the scenes — from producing monthly accounts to leading our annual audit, and managing the budgeting process with flair and precision. You’ll also help make sure our grant funding gets to the right places, supporting seriously life-changing work at the Edinburgh’s children’s hospital.

Some of the things you’ll be doing:

• Working closely with our COO and other brilliant colleagues to keep our finances in tip-top shape
• Leading the monthly financial reporting process and making sure everything adds up (literally)
• Owning the annual budgeting process and helping budget holders feel confident and supported
• Leading the charge during audit time, producing our statutory accounts, and making sure we meet all our filing deadlines
• Helping manage our Grants Programme, ensuring funds are distributed wisely and impactfully
• Preparing papers for our Audit and Grants Committees and keeping them up to date on what’s what
• Keeping a close eye on cash flow so we can keep doing all the amazing things we do
• Line managing a small team, including our Finance Coordinator, Finance Assistant, Retail Manager, and our Grants Volunteer
• Building great relationships with our suppliers, NHS contacts, partners, and other stakeholders. You’ll be one of the friendly faces of finance at ECHC!

Let’s talk about you:

Must haves –

• You’re a fully qualified accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• You’ve managed a finance function before and feel confident leading on budgeting, reporting, audits, and compliance
• You’ve worked closely with auditors, tax advisors, and external partners — and know your way around year-end
• You’re a strong manager and know how to bring the best out of a team
• You’re super organised, love a good deadline, and don’t break a sweat when things get busy
• You bring a proactive, can-do attitude to solving problems
• You genuinely care about making a difference for children, young people and their families — and it shows

Nice to haves –

• Experience in the charity sector or in a grant-giving organisation
• Familiarity with restricted and designated funds
• Worked with fundraising teams before or understand how charity income works
• Knowledge of charity accounting (SORP), OSCR, or gift aid would be a bonus
• Experience with QuickBooks (or similar financial systems)
• A good grasp of staff development tools like appraisals and one-to-ones
