About the Team

The Strategy, Performance & Improvement Team is one of the central Government Finance Function (GFF) teams looking after nearly 10,000 finance professionals across government. GFF maintains a central library of standard processes to share, improve and drive efficiency in the delivery of finance services.

Our 15 person team is offering you the opportunity to help create positive and long-lasting change across finance function communities. Our role offers exposure across Whitehall, including the chance to work and influence at the highest levels of the Civil Service. The team prides itself on providing an encouraging working environment, which role models flexible working and inclusivity, with opportunities to build networks within the finance function and beyond.

About the Role

Key accountabilities

  1. To act as the GFF Finance Subject Matter Expert (SME), bringing your accounting and finance experience to bear, acting as asset owner for finance process and data standards as part of the Finance Standard GovS:006.
  2. Facilitation of finance process & design communities to promote knowledge sharing, capability building around leading practice approaches and problem solving in relation to Finance systems/processes improvement and automation.
  3. Establishing and facilitating a Central “Finance Innovation Group” forum with all 5 Shared Service Clusters to support targeted issue resolution on design queries, share the latest learning on leading practice systems design; and ensure divergence from leading practice is transparently reported on to Finance Leadership.
  4. Keep an eye on the latest trends in finance improvement and new technologies, looking for opportunities to create valuable analysis and insights. Share these insights across government to encourage standard processes and help continuously improve the Finance Function.

About you

Our ideal candidate will hold a CCAB, CIMA or equivalent finance qualification, with experience of delivering or supporting finance technology change and transformation. You will have excellent communication skills, particularly translating complex finance information in an accessible way to influence a wide range of audiences. You’ll be able to collaborate effectively to foster diverse and effective working across teams, and lastly, will be able to anticipate and understand internal and external trends and practices and encourage and share innovative ideas.
