Job summary

National Gas Transmission PLC in Warwick offers a Finance & Governance Analyst role within the Innovation team. You will ensure the Innovation portfolio is financially controlled, governed, and capable of demonstrating measurable value, coordinating budgeting, forecasting and reporting across projects.

You will work with Finance, Legal, Procurement and project teams, applying robust analysis and governance to enable successful innovation delivery, with a hybrid onsite/remote balance in a UK

Qualifications

  • Experience in financial, commercial, portfolio or project governance.
  • Budget management, forecasting, accruals, financial reporting and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Strong analytical capability with attention to detail.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and MS 365 proficiency.
  • Stakeholder management and effective communication skills.
  • Commercial judgement and organisational skills.
  • SAP experience.
  • Knowledge of regulated innovation funding mechanisms (NIA, SIF, UIOLI, Net Zero Reopeners).

About the role:

This Finance & Governance Analyst position works within our Innovation team ensuring the National Gas Innovation portfolio is financially controlled, effectively governed and able to demonstrate measurable value. The role manages portfolio budgeting, forecasting and reporting; coordinates project sanction, contracting and regulatory reporting; and maintains clear visibility of project performance and benefits from idea through to implementation. Working across Innovation, Finance, Legal, Procurement and project teams, the role provides accurate analysis, robust assurance and practical improvements to the systems and processes that enable successful innovation delivery.

Key accountabilities:
  • Manage portfolio budgets, forecasts, accruals and financial reporting, working with Finance and project teams to maintain accurate information and provide clear insight on performance, risks and variances.
  • Coordinate innovation funding and regulatory reporting, including Regulatory Reporting Pack submissions and annual Ofgem requirements.
  • Manage the governance and sanction process for innovation projects, ensuring submissions are complete, evidence-based and progressed in line with delegated authorities.
  • Coordinate commercial and legal activities for innovation projects, including purchase orders, contracting requirements, invoicing and milestone tracking, acting as the key interface with Procurement, Legal, external advisers and delivery partners.
  • Assure cost-benefit assessments completed by the project leads and maintain portfolio-level visibility of project outputs, benefits and value realisation from initial idea through to implementation and subsequent tracking in co-ordination with the Innovation Implementation team.
  • Support effective project change control by working with project leads to identify financial, delivery and governance risks, assess impacts and elevate issues where required.
  • Own and maintain the Innovation governance system, ensuring portfolio information, controls and audit evidence are accurate, current and accessible.
About you:
  • Relevant experience in financial, commercial, portfolio or project governance, supported by a degree or equivalent professional experience in a numerical, commercial, engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Proven experience in budget management, forecasting, accruals, financial reporting and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Strong analytical capability and attention to detail, with the confidence to challenge incomplete or inconsistent information and translate data into clear insight.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel capability and the wider MS 365 suite for managing, analysing and presenting financial and project information
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with a track record of building constructive relationships across multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Good commercial judgement, organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities to agreed deadlines.
  • SAP experience
  • Knowledge of regulated innovation funding mechanisms, including NIA, SIF, UIOLI and Net Zero Reopeners.
