Finance Director

Location: London, E14 9SH

The Finance Director role will report into the Government Finance Director and be part of the UK and GHE senior Finance leadership team.

This position will serve as a strong and trusted business partner to the Key Account Director, providing finance, commercial, and strategic support across the contract.

Job Description

The Finance Director is responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial information and insightful business analysis to support key management decisions and contribute to the successful mobilisation and ongoing performance of the contract.

A key focus will be on maintaining a strong financial control environment, ensuring robust processes are in place, and that the finance team is equipped with the skills and experience needed to meet all responsibilities effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing commercial and financial decision support to drive performance across Government, GHE Division, and the UK business.
• Lead financial governance by establishing robust processes, controls, and accurate management reporting.
• Optimise contract and service profitability through pricing, margin improvement, scenario planning, and risk-return assessments.
• Build and lead a high-performing finance team, supporting transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Analyse performance KPIs, conduct root cause analysis on variances, and recommend actionable improvements.
• Support customer negotiations for variable revenue, rebids, and contractual changes to maximise value and margin.
• Provide financial insight to support the delivery of contractual obligations, managing both commercial and operational risks.

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

• Fully qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with 10+ years post-qualification experience.
• Proven experience as a Finance Director within the Government service sector, managing long-term contracts.
• Strong background in cost and business transformation with a successful track record of delivering change.
• Extensive experience overseeing complex, high-value commercial contracts.
• Skilled in commercial pricing, margin optimisation, and financial risk management.
• Strong leadership and team development capabilities within a finance function.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders.
