Job summary

Tempcover is seeking a highly commercial Finance Director to own financial operations, risk & compliance, and lead a 6-person finance team in a hybrid setup based in London. You will partner with the CEO and senior leaders across Marketing, Underwriting, Tech/Product & People to scale growth while maintaining robust governance.

You will report to the CEO and drive planning, forecasting, and regulatory reporting under FCA standards, ensuring safe operations and strong cross-functional

What’s the Role?

We are looking for a highly commercial Finance Director to take ownership of the financial operations, risk & compliance functions of Tempcover, ensuring the accuracy & integrity of the financial results, and leading the finance team to best-in-class performance.

A key member of the Tempcover Leadership Team, with a particular focus on providing strategic partnership & insight to the Tempcover CEO, and acting as a critical friend to senior leaders in Marketing, Underwriting, Tech/Product & People, you will ensure the business can realise its ambitious growth plans at speed. You will provide this support while architecting and maintaining the robust framework of financial, legal & regulatory governance that underpin that growth, ensuring that the business is operating safely and managing risk.

Reporting directly to the Tempcover CEO, you’ll be required to understand both the detail of financial processes and the breadth of commercial initiatives, whilst demonstrating the authority and leadership which will enable you to influence & impact teams across the wider business.

What you'll be doing

• Member of the Tempcover Leadership Team: This is a key leadership role which will provide strategic & financial support & challenge to the CEO / leadership team and a bridge between the financial and commercial considerations of the business
• Leadership of the Tempcover finance team (team of 6 with 1 direct report - Head of Finance, Finance Manager, 2x Assistant Management Accountants, Accounts Executive & Finance Business Partner) and responsibility for associated core processes (financial reporting & analysis, management accounting, payroll, VAT, accounts payable & receivable)
• Oversight of financial accounting & reporting for Tempcover: Tax, statutory reporting, group reporting & relationships with external advisors (inc banks, auditors, professional advisers), in collaboration with the parent company’s (Zephyr) Group Finance team
• Owner of planning and forecasting: An ability to see the big picture and guide the Commercial Finance business partner in their day to day role
• Regulatory & Risk Oversight: Reporting line for Risk and Compliance, ensuring Tempcover maintains its "safe" operating status through robust FCA reporting, enterprise risk management, and adherence to Consumer Duty standards.
• Governance & Legal Coordination: Act as the internal lead for legal and contractual governance, managing external counsel and ensuring commercial agreements align with the firm’s risk appetite and regulatory obligations
• Ad hoc strategic projects supporting the CEO

What we're looking for

• Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with a blend of technical rigour and commercial curiosity working in a fast-paced environment preferably within the Tech industry
• Proven track record of leading Finance teams’ day to day operations in both operational & commercial finance, delivering core financial processes & providing commercial support to business leaders
• Experienced people leader beyond Finance: seen by the wider business as both a partner and a challenger on the successful delivery of the financial plan, this person will also feel accountability for broader focus areas, e.g. will partner closely with the People teams on key outputs like pay reviews etc
• Strong communication, influencing and people skills: enjoys collaborating with stakeholders of all levels to achieve objectives, and quick to build strong working relationships
• Instinctively balances rigour vs urgency: asking the right questions, & focusing on the right things, in the right order, with the right intensity; has the ability to operate in the big picture strategy, but also wants to roll up their sleeves & get into the detailed work as necessary
• Flexible and energised by navigating ambiguity; comfortable prioritising multiple / changing workstreams, & able to work to tight deadlines where necessary
• Proactive & intellectually curious: has strong attention to detail, and takes full accountability for tasks to see things through to the end
• Acts as a business "navigator", translating complex financial and regulatory requirements into actionable strategy: good at explaining complex financial/commercial concepts in simple terms, and can distil the crux of either into a clear overview to support smooth & informed decision making
• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to create strong presentations which sift out the 'noise' and concisely highlight the 'so what'
