Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Westminster Theological Centre (WTC) as Finance Controller (FC). WTC is at an exciting phase of its development as a fast-growing, innovative, theological college. We are looking for a solution-focused FC who will take responsibility for finance processes and activities. The FC will help the Senior Executive Team (SET) to build on current achievements, and help the college take full advantage of the current and future opportunities.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the FC will provide accounting and strategic financial advice to support the management and governance of WTC within the overall framework of the Strategic Plan 2022-27, and in line with WTC’s core vision, mission and values. WTC launched a for-profit consulting entity in 2020, and the FC will work closely with the Management Team of WTC Consulting Ltd (WTCC). The FC will support the Boards of Trustees (WTC) and Directors (WTCC) and also the WTC Finance and Risk Board Committee.

The role includes the preparation and submission of Group Accounts, engagement with stakeholders and students, and oversight of the financial aspects of events and projects, as well as working with the COO to ensure the smooth running of all financial aspects of college and consultancy activities.

The successful applicant will need to be in full agreement with WTC’s values and mission. As such, it is a genuine occupational requirement for the FC to be a practising Christian.

Commitment & Pay Scale

The successful candidate will have professional accountancy qualifications, commercial and/or professional experience, be strategic and solution-oriented, be a team player, and have strong communication skills. WTC staff team is small and hardworking, with a strong and positive team culture.

This is a full-time, permanent position (37.5 hours/week FTE) on completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 3 months. The position attracts a salary of £40,000 - £50,000 FTE per year, depending on experience and qualifications, as well as access to a pension scheme. Annual holiday allowance is 25 days per calendar (FTE) year plus bank holidays.

The WTC office is in Cheltenham, UK. This role has opportunities for flexible working arrangements, with availability for some office-based meetings. Travel to some WTC events, including the two annual residential, intensive teaching weeks at Nottingham University is also desirable.

To apply:

Please email an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae, together with a covering letter highlighting how your qualifications and experience make you the person we are looking for, to the Chief Operating Officer, operations@wtctheology.org.uk.

Closing date for applications:

COB Sunday 2nd February 2025.

Interviews:

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in person at the WTC offices during the week beginning 10th February. The successful candidate will ideally be available to take up the position as soon as possible after accepting the role.
