Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a Finance Controls professional on a 18-month fixed-term contract/secondment. The role focuses on strengthening the financial control framework, providing assurance and insightful reporting, and partnering with senior stakeholders across Finance and the business.

Location options include Glasgow, Perth, London, Reading or Havant, with 50% travel expected. You will act as a trusted advisor, drive first-line control excellence, and collaborate with IT to streamline processes,

Qualifications

• Professional qualification (ACCA, ACA, ICAS, IIA or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of finance processes, risk assessment, and internal control frameworks.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to influence at senior levels.
• Analytical and commercial mindset with problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to change.
• Continuous improvement mindset and curiosity to push for better.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships across the business and Finance, including Finance Directors, Controllers, Process Leads, and external auditors.
• Champion training and upskilling initiatives to maintain a culture of control excellence and ensure the first line have the necessary skills and understanding.
• Collaborate with IT and Finance to enhance processes and integrate controls seamlessly into operations.
• Continuously evolve the financial control framework and processes to keep pace with business change and the latest thinking.

Job description

Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations Glasgow, Perth, London, Reading or Havant.

Salary: £51,600 - £77,400 + 10% performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Fixed Term Contract/Secondment -18months | Full Time | Flexible First options available

The role

We have an opportunity to join the Financial Controls Centre of Excellence for a secondment or fixed term contract of up to 18 months.

Reporting to the Head of Financial Controls you’ll play a key part ensuring Group Finance achieves its ambition of “Best in class financial control”. You’ll ensure the financial control framework keeps pace as Finance goes through a period of rapid change to a process-aligned structure; providing assurance, reporting, and insight on the effectiveness of the framework.

You’ll be responsible for a specific area of Finance, generating and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders at all levels across Finance, including Controllers, Process Leads and business unit FDs.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to hone their risk and controls expertise, expand the breadth and depth of their Finance knowledge, and play a key part in the realisation of the Finance Blueprint, our five-year strategy.

You will

You have

• Professional qualification (ACCA, ACA, ICAS, IIA or equivalent) with 3+ years PQE in a large organisation or practice.
• Strong understanding of finance processes, risk assessment, and internal control frameworks.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and comfortable influencing at senior levels with a readiness to say what’s needed.
• An analytical and commercial mindset with problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to change.
• A continuous improvement and continually curious mindset – always looking to push for better.
