Job description

Could your finance expertise help shape the future of education?

At EduFin, we believe great financial management can make a real difference to the schools and academy trusts we support.

We work with schools and academy trusts across the education sector, providing expert finance support, advice and guidance that helps them make the most of their resources. As a Finance Consultant, you will have the opportunity to use your accounting expertise in a role that is varied, rewarding and genuinely makes a difference.

If you are looking for more than a traditional finance role – somewhere you can develop your career, broaden your experience, build trusted relationships and work alongside a supportive team – we would love to hear from you.

We are proud of our friendly, supportive and positive culture. We work hard, but we also believe that people do their best work when they feel valued, trusted and supported.

We invest in our people and actively encourage everyone to take ownership of their career development. You will have access to a wide range of experience across our team, regular training and opportunities to develop your skills and progress your career.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary from £35,000, depending on experience

  • Clear career progression with individual development and progression plans

  • Regular professional development and training to help you build your expertise

  • Study support and a study package where relevant to your career and qualifications

  • Access to the knowledge and experience of the wider EduFin team, with support always available through Teams and direct collaboration

  • Half-yearly team days and events

  • Opportunities to get involved in charity and community activities

  • A programme of social events organised by our events committee

  • Flexible and occasional remote working

  • A supportive culture that values wellbeing and work-life balance

  • The opportunity to build a long-term career within a growing education group

EduFin is a trusted provider of financial services to the education sector. Since 2013, we have built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, practical financial support to schools and academy trusts.

In 2025, we became part of Transforming Learning Group, an ambitious education group committed to empowering schools and improving outcomes for young people.

This is an exciting time to join us. We are growing, developing our services and investing in our people, creating opportunities for our team to grow alongside the organisation.

Our offices are based in East Malling, but this is primarily a home-based role, with regular travel to client sites across the South East. Mileage will be reimbursed.

Role Summary

No two days are the same at EduFin.

Our consultants work with a wide variety of schools and academy trusts, giving you exposure to different organisations, systems, challenges and ways of working. You will quickly develop a broad understanding of education finance and gain experience that would be difficult to achieve in a traditional finance role.

Depending on your experience and development, your role could include:

  • Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports

  • Supporting schools with budget preparation, forecasting and financial planning

  • Providing finance management and absence cover, including at Finance Manager and Finance Controller level

  • Supporting clients and auditors through year-end and the preparation of financial statements

  • Providing practical advice and guidance on financial best practice and DfE requirements

  • Training and supporting school finance teams on relevant finance systems and processes

  • Helping clients to improve their financial procedures, controls and ways of working

  • Building strong relationships with clients and becoming a trusted source of financial advice

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across EduFin to share knowledge and deliver an excellent client experience

As you develop, there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility, broaden your technical expertise and progress into more senior consultancy and leadership roles.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is technically capable, commercially aware and, most importantly, passionate about developing their career and making a difference.

You will ideally have:

  • AAT qualification or be part-qualified, with a minimum of three years' accounting experience

  • A genuine interest in developing a career within education finance

  • Strong accounting and financial reporting skills

  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work directly with clients

  • The ability to build positive and trusted professional relationships

  • A proactive approach and the confidence to take ownership of your workload

  • A positive, enthusiastic and solutions-focused attitude

  • The ability to remain professional and calm when dealing with challenging situations

  • A willingness to learn, develop and share knowledge with others

  • A commitment to your own professional development and studies, where applicable

  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a supportive team

  • A genuine interest in the success and wellbeing of colleagues

You don't need to know everything about education finance when you join us. What matters is your attitude, your willingness to learn and your ambition to develop. We will support you in building the specialist knowledge you need.

More than just a finance job

Working at EduFin gives you the chance to develop a career where your work has a wider purpose.

The financial advice and support we provide enables schools and trusts to use their resources effectively, strengthen their financial management and ultimately create better opportunities for the children and young people they serve.

You will be surrounded by experienced colleagues who are willing to share their knowledge, support your development and celebrate your successes.

We want people to join EduFin because they can see where their career could go, not simply because they are looking for their next job.

Ready for your next step?

If you are ambitious, curious, collaborative and excited by the opportunity to build a career in education finance, we'd love to hear from you.
