Job description

Sense has a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our Finance team as our Finance Business Partner. This is a full-time hybrid position working 37.5 hours per week between home and our office in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

The Finance Team plays a crucial role in managing the financial resources of the organisation. Our team ensures the financial health of the organisation, supporting all departments to achieve their goals through sound financial practices and comprehensive financial oversight. The successful candidate will ideally have a retail accounting background with knowledge of EPOS systems. Responsibilities include preparing regular, timely, and accurate financial management information such as budgets, forecasts, cost centre reports, analysis, and commentaries, ensuring non-financial managers can interpret the data to understand financial implications. You will assist in maintaining the financial health and appropriate management. There will also be regular visits to our site in Crayford.

Key Responsibilities

• Producing monthly management accounts for trading, ensuring accruals, prepayments, and adjustments are accurately calculated and posted, and that income from other systems, payroll, and invoiced costs are accurately reported to reflect true financial performance.
• Maintaining and reconciling trading balance sheet accounts regularly.
• Presenting financial performance to Senior Management monthly, with narrative explanations of main movements and drivers against budgets and forecasts.
• Conducting monthly review meetings with the Director of the service and Operational managers, supporting budget holders with commercial, capital, and investment proposals.
• Challenging operational managers to ensure thorough consideration of all concepts before making business decisions.

Key Skills and Experience

• Relevant financial qualification such as CCAB, with evidence of ongoing professional development.
• Proven experience as a Finance Business Partner within retail accounting, with knowledge of EPOS systems, stock accounting, and control.
• Experience developing and monitoring an annual budget within a multi-cost centre environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders and external agencies, facilitating objectives and change management.
• Ability to influence and collaborate with Senior Management and finance colleagues.
• Good knowledge of management accounting in a retail environment, understanding charity retail accounting, VAT, and Gift Aid.
• Experience using computerised finance systems such as Sun.
