Job summary

Heart of Kent Hospice is recruiting a Finance Assistant to work closely with the Deputy Finance Director and Finance Officers. The role covers financial record-keeping, processing income and expenditure, payroll support, and day-to-day financial admin across the organisation from a base in Kent.

The ideal candidate will have finance experience, strong numerical accuracy, and excellent attention to detail. The post offers a full-time 37.5 hours per week (9am–5pm), with flex to 30 hours for the

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a finance or accounts administration role.
• Experience processing invoices, supplier payments and reconciliations.
• Experience handling cash, cheques and banking procedures.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Confidence using Microsoft Teams.
• Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Processing purchase ledger invoices and supplier payments.
• Recording and banking cash and cheque income.
• Completing bank and petty cash reconciliations.
• Raising sales invoices and recording financial transactions.
• Supporting payroll administration and processing timesheets.
• Maintaining accurate financial records using Sage.
• Administering Gift Aid claims and lottery income records.
• Supporting the day-to-day operation of the Zahara accounts payable system.
• Responding to finance queries from colleagues and external contacts.
• Assisting with audit preparation and year-end processes.
• Supporting office administration, stock control and asset management activities.
• Supervising and supporting finance volunteers where appropriate.
