Job summary

HDI is seeking an ambitious finance trainee to join our team and develop in financial control, regulatory reporting, and process improvement. You will gain exposure to monthly closings, group reporting, and Solvency UK returns while pursuing a professional accounting qualification.

The role offers development opportunities, mentoring, and increasing responsibility as knowledge grows within a dynamic finance function.

Qualifications

  • Numerical degree preferred, but not essential.
  • Studying toward a professional accounting qualification.
  • Eager to learn and contribute to financial reporting.
  • Interest in process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist monthly management accounts: P&L and balance sheet for branches and carrier.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including intercompany.
  • Investigate variances between underwriting system and ledger.
  • Maintain monthly audit file and liaise with Finance teams.
  • Support auditors and group reporting packs for Home Office.

The role

We are seeking an ambitious and motivated individual who is looking to build a long-term career within Finance. This role offers excellent exposure to financial control, regulatory reporting, group reporting and process improvement activities.

The successful candidate will be supported in their professional development with opportunities to take on increasing levels of responsibility as their knowledge and experience grow. The role is ideally suited to someone studying/interested in studying towards a professional accounting qualification and looking to develop and progress within a dynamic finance function.

Key accountabilities

Support the financial reporting team in the following areas:

  • Creation of the monthly management accounts files - profit & loss and balance sheet for Branches and Carrier
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations (technical and intercompany)
  • Investigate and correct any variances between the underwriting system and the ledger
  • Creation and maintenance of the monthly audit file, liaising with teams across Finance for deliverables
  • Liaise with auditors
Monthly/quarterly close process
  • Lead in the monthly/quarterly close process, liaising with teams across Finance where necessary
Group reporting
  • Production of the quarterly group reporting packs to Home Office for the Branches
Regulatory Reporting (PRA and other)
  • Assist with the production of Solvency UK returns, with the opportunity to assume ownership of specific reporting schedules as experience develops.
  • Levy reporting information (FSCS, Flood Re, ELTO, London Fire Brigade)
  • Support NCID reporting - Annual, Half year
  • Support Quarterly Irish SNST Reporting
General Balance Sheet Clear-Up
  • Review / reconcile historic balances for accuracy
Process Improvements
  • Automate processes where possible
  • Ensure process notes are up to date and easy to follow
  • Exposure to all key areas of financial reporting.
  • Support in developing Insurance finance knowledge and understanding
  • Support towards professional accountancy qualifications.
  • Opportunity to lead process improvements.
  • Increasing ownership of reporting and reconciliation activities as experience develops.
  • Exposure to senior stakeholders across Finance and the wider business.
