Job summary

First City Nursing and Care is recruiting a Finance Apprentice in Swindon to join our busy Finance Team. This entry-level role offers hands-on training while you study towards an AAT Level 2 or 3.

You will support day-to-day financial processes, learn accounting best practices, and gain exposure to payroll administration. The program runs 12–18 months with on‑the‑job training and mentorship.

Qualifications

• Be 16 years of age or older.
• GCSE Maths and English grade C/4 or equivalent, or willing to undertake Functional Skills.
• Have an understanding and/or interest in Accounting/Finance.
• All employment with First City Nursing and Care is subject to satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS check, and mandatory training.

Responsibilities

• Work with Sage 50 Accounts and other finance systems.
• Reconcile subcontractor invoices against agreed rates, invoicing and documentation to ensure accuracy.
• Prepare and process payments to subcontractors in a timely manner.
• Review subcontractor accounts and resolve discrepancies or queries.
• Monitor aged debtor reports and identify outstanding debt; escalate as needed.
• Liaise with internal departments, subcontractors, and customers regarding invoice and payment queries.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure documentation is up to date.
• Support month-end processes and general administrative tasks.
• Handle sensitive information in line with data protection regulations.
• Complete apprenticeship coursework and assessments to a high standard.
• Undertake other finance and administration duties as required.

About the Role

As a Finance Apprentice, you will play an important role in supporting the Finance Team with day‑to‑day activities while developing your knowledge and understanding of financial processes. This apprenticeship offers an excellent opportunity to gain industry experience, build professional skills, and work towards a recognised qualification.

You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship to develop your accounting and administrative abilities, giving you a strong foundation for a successful career in finance.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Be 16 years of age or older
• Must have at least a grade C or 4 GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English or be willing to undertake Functional Skills as part of the course
• Have an understanding and/or interest in Accounting/Finance
• All employment with First City Nursing and Care is subject to satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS check, and completion of mandatory training.

Duration

The apprenticeship will take between 12 - 18 months to complete

Courses available: Accountancy (AAT) Level 2 or 3, depending on previous qualifications

Salary

Salary: 15,600 per annum for the 1st year - Rate will be assessed after a year.

Hours: 08.30 am - 16:30pm. Monday - Friday

Some flexibility in hours may be required to suit the needs of the business.
