3 days in the office, 2 days at home

At London Borough of Brent, finance is more than just producing the accounts—it’s about enabling transformation, safeguarding public resources, and helping shape the future of our borough. Working closely with colleagues across the council to ensure that financial insight is at the heart of decision-making. Their work is grounded in fairness, inclusion, and respect, and great pride is taken in creating a team environment where every voice is heard, and every success is celebrated. These values are not just aspirations—they are embedded in how they lead, how they support each other, and how they deliver for Brent’s communities.

Your new role

You will be working within the Capital, Treasury & Commercial team, supporting the effective delivery of Brent’s ambitious Capital Programme. You will act as a business partner, providing expert financial advice and analysis across various high-profile capital projects. Responsibilities include supporting Capital Boards, managing leases, and ensuring funding is optimized and aligned with development priorities. You will collaborate with project managers and service leads to deliver financial modelling, forecasting, and reporting to support investment decisions. This role offers a chance to influence the financial sustainability and strategic direction of Brent’s capital investments, contributing to the borough’s growth and regeneration.

What you need to succeed

  • The ideal candidate will be a part-qualified accountant or hold an AAT qualification, with a strong interest in pursuing a more technical role within finance.
  • A genuine curiosity about funding mechanisms of local government and a commitment to staying informed on statutory regulations are essential.
  • Experience in local government is advantageous, but applications from individuals with backgrounds in other public sector organizations, charities, or not-for-profit sectors are welcome.

What you'll get in return

  • The opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Generous holiday entitlement starting from 27 days per year
  • Family-friendly policies, including maternity and paternity entitlements and childcare schemes
  • Flexible working patterns, including hybrid working
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Good travel links and cost-saving travel schemes
  • Access to My Brent Rewards for staff discounts and local offers
  • Work at the state-of-the-art Brent Civic Centre

The closing date is 7th July; applications will be reviewed as received, so early application is encouraged.
