Job summary

Morgan McKinley Northern Home Counties in Luton is partnering with a growing business to recruit an organised and detail-focused Accounts Assistant keen to develop their accounting career. You will support a broad range of transactional finance activities and assist with end-to-end finance processes.

Ideal candidates have prior Accounts Assistant experience, exposure to VAT/payroll, and are studying towards AAT/ACCA/CIMA.

Qualifications

• Ideally, previous experience within an Accounts Assistant or similar finance role.
• Experience in an accountancy practice would be highly desirable, especially year-end accounts, VAT returns, payroll and HMRC liaison.
• Candidates studying towards AAT, ACCA or CIMA would be welcomed.
• Strong attention to detail and high accuracy when processing financial information.
• Good Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
• Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with colleagues, suppliers and external contacts.
• Proactive approach with the ability to investigate discrepancies and resolve queries.

Responsibilities

• Allocate daily cash and ensure transactions are recorded accurately.
• Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
• Review monthly P&Ls and investigate discrepancies.
• Complete ONS surveys and other financial returns.
• Process purchase orders, staff expenses, mileage claims and commission payments.
• Produce and analyse reports relating to subcontractors, consumables and site spend.
• Liaise with internal teams, suppliers and external contacts to resolve queries and pricing issues.
• Maintain ordering templates, price lists and internal accounting records.
• Assist with accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and intercompany transactions.
• Support year-end audit preparation and assist with ad-hoc finance projects.
