Field Service Technician

Job Purpose
FMH Conveyors International Ltd is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Field Service Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair conveyor systems and associated material handling equipment at customer sites throughout the UK and internationally. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring our equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably while delivering exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and test conveyor systems and material handling equipment at customer facilities.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and service inspections.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and operational faults and carry out effective repairs.
- Respond to customer breakdowns and provide emergency support when required.
- Ensure all service work is completed in accordance with company procedures and health and safety regulations.
- Produce accurate service reports, maintenance records, and site documentation.
- Liaise professionally with customers, site personnel, and internal departments to ensure successful project delivery.
- Provide technical advice and operator training to customers as needed.
- Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades, replacement parts, and additional service offerings.
- Maintain company tools, service vehicles, and equipment in good working order.
- Support factory acceptance testing and workshop activities when required.
- Participate in an on-call rota and work flexible hours to meet customer requirements.
Qualifications and ExperienceEssential
- Engineering qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with conveyors, automated systems, material handling equipment, or industrial machinery.
- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays and international travel.
Desirable
- Experience with PLC-controlled systems and automation equipment.
- Knowledge of motors, drives, sensors, pneumatics, and electrical control systems.
- Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH, CSCS, IPAF, PASMA).
- Experience within logistics, warehousing, parcel handling, or manufacturing environments.

Working Conditions
- Frequent travel throughout the UK and overseas.
- Regular work at industrial, warehouse, distribution, and manufacturing sites.
- Occasional weekend and out-of-hours work.
- Physical duties including lifting, climbing, and working in varying site environments.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with company and customer safety requirements.
