Job summary

Apogee Corporation is seeking an IT Field Technician to join our Managed Desktop Services team in Barnsley. You will diagnose, repair and maintain laptops, desktops and related hardware, split between on-site visits and remote support to keep customer systems running smoothly.

The role emphasizes hands-on technical ability, clear communication, and first-time fix quality, with DBS and SC clearance requirements and a supportive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in laptop or PC hardware repair.
  • Strong understanding of hardware, software, and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and fault-finding techniques.
  • Confident troubleshooting skills across hardware and basic networking issues.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload.
  • Full, clean driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software faults across laptops, desktops, and peripheral devices.
  • Install, configure and maintain operating systems including Windows.
  • Support users onsite and remotely with clear and practical guidance.
  • Carry out repairs, component replacements and system upgrades.
  • Troubleshoot printers, connectivity issues and RPOS hardware.
  • Complete accurate job records, service notes and repair documentation.
  • Follow data protection, backup and security procedures.
  • Escalate more complex issues when required.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service and communication.

A typical working pattern is Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:30, with a one-hour lunch break.
Skills And Experience Required
  • Proven experience in laptop or PC hardware repair
  • Strong understanding of hardware, software, and operating systems (Windows experience essential, macOS or Linux beneficial)
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and fault‑finding techniques
  • Confident troubleshooting skills across hardware and basic networking issues
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
  • Full, clean driving licence
