Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Field Service Engineer (Electrical) to deliver high-quality electrical installation, testing and commissioning for large power transformers across the UK. Qualifications

  • Completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671) qualification essential.
  • Proven experience as Electrician, Wireman, Electrical Installation Engineer or Field Service Engineer.
  • Experience with electrical installation, testing and commissioning of control and power cabling.
  • Experience with panel wiring, control systems and substations is advantageous.
  • Able to read electrical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Site supervision or team leadership experience desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out electrical installation and service activities on customer sites with safety first.
  • Install, route, trim and terminate LV control, protection and power cabling for transformers.
  • Panel wiring, marshalling kiosk wiring and control cabinet modifications as per drawings.
  • Read wiring diagrams and schematics to ensure correct installations.
  • Perform electrical inspection, testing, fault finding and commissioning on control systems.
  • Support transformer commissioning including insulation and continuity testing.
  • Lead site activities under Project Manager and maintain quality records.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and identify service opportunities.

Hitachi Energy has an exciting opportunity to join our Transformers business as a Field Service Engineer (Electrical). You’ll contribute to the execution of the service strategy and service growth by delivering timely, high-quality, cost-effective service offerings, solutions and engineering projects for customers across the UK.

Working as part of a team of experienced engineers and technicians, you’ll support the electrical installation, wiring, testing, commissioning and maintenance of large power transformers, associated control systems and ancillary equipment. You will play a key role in delivering safe and efficient service activities whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for experienced electricians, wiremen and electrical installation engineers to develop specialist expertise within the power industry and support critical energy infrastructure projects across the UK.

Please note: This is a highly mobile, field-based role that requires extensive travel throughout the UK. Successful candidates should expect frequent overnight stays away from home, extended periods working on customer sites, and occasional weekend working as part of normal project delivery requirements.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Work as part of a team of experienced engineers and technicians undertaking and coordinating electrical installation and service activities on customer sites whilst maintaining a strong focus on health and safety, quality standards, project schedules and customer satisfaction.
  • Carry out the installation, routing, glanding, dressing and termination of LV control, protection and power cabling associated with large power transformers and associated equipment.
  • Undertake panel wiring, marshalling kiosk wiring, control cabinet modifications and auxiliary circuit installations in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and technical documentation to ensure installations are completed correctly.
  • Perform electrical inspection, testing, fault finding and commissioning activities on transformer control and auxiliary systems.
  • Support transformer commissioning projects by carrying out continuity testing, insulation resistance testing and functional checks on protection, monitoring and control circuits.
  • Lead site activities under the direction of the Project Manager, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with customer requirements.
  • Maintain project documentation, quality records, commissioning checklists and service reports, helping to resolve technical issues and support continuous improvement activities.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers and act as an ambassador for Hitachi Energy whilst identifying potential service opportunities and customer requirements.
  • Apply all safety rules, environmental requirements and safe working practices whilst proactively identifying hazards and implementing actions to ensure the safety of personnel, equipment and customer assets.
Your Background
  • Completed a recognised Electrical Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation, City & Guilds Electrical qualification or equivalent industry experience.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671) qualification essential.
  • Proven experience as an Electrician, Wireman, Electrical Installation Engineer or Electrical Field Service Engineer.
  • Experience in the installation, termination and testing of control, instrumentation and power cabling.
  • Experience with panel wiring, control systems, switchgear, transformers, substations or industrial electrical installations would be advantageous.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, wiring schematics, cable schedules and engineering documentation.
  • Experience leading site teams, coordinating subcontractors or supervising engineering activities is desirable.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of transformer equipment and associated plant would be advantageous.
  • Site safety qualifications such as IPAF, PASMA, CCNSG, CSCS or equivalent would be beneficial, although training will be provided.
  • Full UK driving licence.
