Kraken Works Limited is seeking a practical Electrical Field Service Engineer to provide front-line support across Kraken’s customer network. You will travel to customer sites across the UK and overseas, diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs with a fully equipped service van.
You will read electrical drawings, use test equipment and triage faults to determine on-site resolution or escalation. A hands-on engineer with strong communication is required.

We are looking for a practical, self-motivated Electrical Field Service Engineer to provide front-line support across Kraken’s customer network.
Working primarily as a mobile support engineer, you will travel to customer and operational sites across the UK and overseas, diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and maintaining the electrical systems that support our platforms. You will have access to a fully equipped service van containing the test equipment, tooling, consumables and commonly required parts needed to resolve issues effectively.
You will also support remote fault diagnosis through our business support portal, reviewing technical information, prioritising requests and providing clear, practical guidance. This is a varied, hands‑on position for an organised engineer who can work independently, use their initiative and represent Kraken professionally in every customer interaction.
Providing front-line electrical field support at customer sites, facilities and operational locations Diagnosing, maintaining and repairing platform electrical systems, including power generation and distribution, batteries, charging systems, wiring, protection devices, control panels, sensors and actuators Completing planned and reactive electrical maintenance, inspections, testing, component replacement and cable repairs Reading and interpreting electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals and diagnostic information Using electrical test equipment to verify supplies, continuity, insulation, communications and component operation Responding to customer issues using the allocated mobile workshop van Maintaining test equipment, tooling, consumables and commonly required spares in a serviceable, calibrated and organised condition Triaging faults and determining whether they can be resolved on site, require additional parts or need escalation to specialist engineering teams Providing clear, professional and customer‑focused communication throughout diagnosis, repair, testing and return‑to‑service activity Supporting remote electrical fault diagnosis through the business support portal Prioritising workloads, tracking open cases and recording diagnostic findings and completed actions Identifying the test equipment, tooling, consumables and parts required for each task Managing allocated stock and parts responsibly to maintain an effective mobile service capability Completing service reports, test results, inspection records, defect reports and customer handover documentation Escalating recurring, complex or safety‑critical electrical issues Working safely in accordance with isolation procedures, risk assessments, customer controls and safe systems of work Capturing lessons learned to help improve platform reliability, electrical design, technical documentation, spares planning and customer support processes
A strong electrical engineering background gained within field service, marine engineering, automotive, defence, industrial maintenance, power systems or a comparable environment Practical experience maintaining, diagnosing and repairing low‑voltage DC and AC electrical systems Experience working with power distribution, batteries, charging systems, wiring looms, control circuits and associated equipment Confidence reading and interpreting electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, pin‑out information and technical manuals Strong electrical fault‑finding and diagnostic skills Experience using electrical test equipment such as multimeters, insulation testers, current clamps and circuit diagnostic tools A sound understanding of electrical isolation, circuit protection, safe working practices and the risks associated with stored electrical energy The ability to work independently, organise field activity and use initiative while following approved procedures A professional, presentable and customer‑focused approach Clear verbal and written communication skills A proactive, flexible and can‑do attitude Good organisational and digital skills, including experience using support portals, business systems and Microsoft Office applications The ability to maintain accurate service, diagnostic, testing, parts and customer records The ability to fulfil the driving requirements of the position Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the UK and overseas Eligibility to obtain and maintain any security clearances required by the business and its customers
Experience working with marine electrical systems, including vessel power distribution, batteries, alternators, shore supplies, charging equipment, navigation systems, sensors or control equipment Experience supporting vessels, Uncrewed Surface Vessels, autonomous platforms or remotely operated maritime systems A recognised electrical or electronic engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience Relevant electrical inspection, testing, wiring regulations, marine electrical or manufacturer training and certification Experience with CAN bus, Ethernet, serial communications, programmable controllers, vehicle or marine networks, and diagnostic software Experience working with high‑voltage systems, electric propulsion or energy‑storage systems, supported by the appropriate competence and authorisation Previous experience in a customer‑facing field service, mobile maintenance or breakdown support position Experience managing van stock, calibrated test equipment, tooling, spares and service consumables Experience within defence, maritime technology, offshore, workboat or another safety‑critical operational environment Knowledge of electronic service management, parts ordering or enterprise resource planning systems Vessel towing experience
