Job summary

SMT GB is seeking a Field Service Engineer to join our Customer Support team across Duxford and surrounding areas. The role focuses on maintenance, diagnostics and repair of Volvo construction equipment on client sites, delivering excellent customer service.

Applicants must have NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or related discipline, strong diesel engine and hydraulic knowledge, and a valid UK driving licence. Travel flexibility and overtime support customer requirements.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Maintenance, or related discipline.
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction plant equipment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out diagnostics, servicing, maintenance and repairs on Volvo construction equipment and related machinery.
• Identify and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and engine faults using diagnostic equipment.
• Act as primary point of contact for customers, provide updates and actions.
• Complete job documentation, inspection reports, and timesheets accurately and in real time.
• Maintain safety, professionalism and compliance with policies.

Are you an experienced engineer with a background in construction plant, heavy equipment, agricultural machinery, HGVs, or a similar mechanical environment? We're looking for a Field Service Engineer to join our Customer Support team, providing maintenance, diagnostics, and repair services to customers across Duxford and the surrounding areas.

Please note: Applicants must hold an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Maintenance, or a related engineering discipline, and have experience maintaining and repairing construction plant equipment. What You'll Be Doing

This is a field-based role where you'll be responsible for maintaining and repairing Volvo construction equipment, delivering exceptional customer service, and ensuring maximum machine availability. You'll work independently on customer sites while building strong relationships and acting as a trusted technical expert.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Carrying out diagnostics, servicing, maintenance, and repairs on Volvo construction equipment and associated machinery.
• Identifying and resolving mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related faults using technical expertise and diagnostic equipment.
• Acting as the primary point of contact for customers, providing updates on machine status, repair progress, and recommended actions.
• Completing all job documentation, inspection reports, timesheets, and electronic records accurately and in real time.
• Maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, housekeeping, and compliance with company policies and procedures.

What You'll Need

We're looking for a self-motivated and customer-focused engineer with excellent technical knowledge and a commitment to delivering outstanding service.

To Be Successful, You'll Have

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, HGV Maintenance, or a related engineering discipline.
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction plant, with strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, drivetrains, electrics, and diagnostic systems.
• Advanced fault-finding and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a field-based environment.
• Strong communication and customer service skills, with the confidence to build effective working relationships.
• A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel, work overtime, and support customer requirements when needed.
