Job summary

Utilise Recruitment is seeking a hands-on Field Service Engineer to service UK-based payment terminals, kiosks, barriers and ANPR systems. You will perform maintenance across Essex and the surrounding region, with a company vehicle and full product training provided.

The role requires strong knowledge of credit card/terminal mechanics, basic networking, and electrical safety, with on-site work and customer-facing responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Field Service Engineer with multi-skills in payment terminals and networking.
• Experience with Terminal Management System (TMS) calls and host communications.
• Ability to configure basic IP addresses and network settings on hardware.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs across Essex and surrounding areas.
• Troubleshoot electromechanical, low-voltage electrical, and software faults on kiosks and barriers.
• Install, terminate, test, and patch network cabling on client sites.
• Perform safe electrical isolations before repairs or replacements.

The Opportunity

We are supporting a market leader in intelligent parking solutions as they continueto expand their UK Field Service Engineering team. The company designs and manufactures proprietary parking technology here in the UK—including pay terminals, ticketing kiosks, barrier access controls, and ANPR systems. We are seeking a hands-on, multi-skilled Field Service Engineer who brings strong core knowledge in payment terminal mechanics, basic network infrastructure, and safe electrical isolation. Full product-specific training is provided, making this an outstanding opportunity for engineers looking to advance their technical career in a specialist, high-growth sector.

Key Requirements & Technical Criteria

• Credit Card & Payment Terminals
• TMS Calls: Proven understanding of Terminal Management System (TMS) calls, host communications, and initial payment terminal setup/maintenance.
• Payment Kiosks: Experience diagnosing and servicing integrated credit card readers, chip-and-pin units, or unattended payment hardware.
• Hands-on Networking Basics
• IP Setup & Connectivity: Ability to configure basic IP addresses, subnetting, and network settings on hardware components.
• Cabling & Hardware: Direct experience with cable crimping (RJ45/Cat5e/Cat6), patch panel connections, neat cabling containment, and connecting network switches (e.g., Moxa industrial switches).
• Electrical Safety
• Electrical Isolation: Safe isolation of low-voltage systems and mains power supplies before carrying out maintenance or component replacement.
• Comfort reading basic wiring diagrams and using multi-meters/test tools safely around power supplies.

Desirable Experience (Strong Advantage)

• Barriers & Access Control: Servicing or installing automated car park barriers, gate systems, or access controllers.
• ANPR / CCTV Cameras: Basic alignment, installation, or troubleshooting of ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) or IP CCTV camera units.
• Routers & Switches: Configuring industrial switches, routers, or local wireless/wired network infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance (PPM), servicing, and emergency repairs across Essex and surrounding areas.
• Troubleshoot complex electromechanical, low-voltage electrical, and software-related faults on kiosks, barriers, and cameras.
• Install, terminate, test, and patch network cabling on client sites.
• Perform safe electrical isolations prior to conducting internal repairs or modular replacements.
• Deliver a high-standard client-facing customer service while maintaining accurate site reports.
